What didn't you miss on Saturday!

3-0 routine win for Yangju despite their Brazilian signings disappearing to wash dishes in Mama Cho's Duck factory.
Paquebot shaking more hands and getting more gifts than the Pope on a Sunday stroll through the Vatican.
A visit to the Yangju club house, that has more trophies stuffed in than Messi's attic.

Goyang v Buyeo next weekend. Buyeo couldn't raise a team this weekend at home to Paju so received a 3-0 walkover loss. Reckon that might be Goyang's best chance this weekend.

Seoul United stuffed Uijeongbu 7-0, so with three rounds left that looks like the race for the bottom sorted.

Are they grooming paquebot as a potential sugardaddy investor or is it like with Charlie as a foot in the door of the lucrative ROKfootball market?

Definitely the latter I think.

Pocheon slipped up in the Advanced, allowing Gyeongju to pull further ahead at the top.

I think half the gifts were on account of you being there, Rothesay.

We were given two cartons of juice when we arrived at the stadium, two free raffle tickets (normally 3,000 apiece), and I was handed a ball signed by the coach and players. They were also raffling off signed balls at halftime so they likely only offered me one to keep me from asking about another K3 Guide or shirt.

On the subject of kits. Yangju's keeper started the match wearing the number 4 -- indicated by the sheet of paper with that number on it taped over the normal numbering on his shirt and shorts. It only stayed on for roughly the first 10 minutes and nobody seemed to care after that. Two minutes from full time he was subbed out for another keeper -- this one with some medical tape applied to his shirt to turn him into number 31. No idea what was going on there and I forgot to ask anyone before I left.

I was told the two Brazilian forwards that were meant to be the club's salvation "didn't work out". No idea if that means visa trouble, homesickness, or them deciding to get a little too close with another player's significant other and getting the boot as a result.
In Yangju, if your cabbage doesn't understand you and you have valid reason for not eating it, then it is ok to go to other vegetables for your kimchi - though strictly nothing from south of Namyangju. -- Martyrs Forever

No slip ups from Pocheon this weekend, they beat 3rd placed Cheongju City 4-1.
But Gyeongju won by the same scoreline in Jeonju, so with two games left they'll finish top.

I haven't seen Gyeongju this season, but Pocheon looked really strong. They had two foreigners playing, one a powerful central defender, the other a centre forward. Not sure if they are both Brazilian, but if they are then we might have solved the Mystery of the missing Yangju footballers. :albino:

Down in the Basic, Siheung lost. A win would have given them the title. A single point from their remaining two games would be enough, but Paju and Chungju are both mathematically still in it. Interestingly, both Paju and Chungju have scored more goals than leaders Siheung.

Looks like there's now a three-week gap between remaining rounds to ensure everyone's on their best form (or, in the case of some clubs, become hideously out of shape).

Unlikely that Siheung won't at least earn a draw away to Buyeo next round; but if they were to slip, it could all come down to the final round in a couple of tasty fixtures.

Round 21 (October 6):

  • Buyeo (7th) vs. SIHEUNG (1st)
  • PAJU (2nd) vs. Goyang (9th)
  • Pyeongchang (9th) vs. CHUNGJU (3rd)

Round 22 (October 28):

  • SIHEUNG (1st) vs. PAJU (2nd)
  • Busan FC (4th) vs. CHUNGJU (3rd)

Yangju have now beaten Siheung both home and away this season. The team is good enough to take 6 points from the league leaders yet struggled against Goyang (away win, 1:2) and Uijeongbu (home draw, 2:2 IIRC).

Also, the match card for the Siheung - Yangju match looks a little odd as there's no keeper listed among Yangju's starting eleven or substitutes. I guess they threw someone from another position in goal, which could also explain the makeshift numbering both keepers had in the previous round.

Where do they hide the league tables these days?
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

But what is happening with Goyang being above Pyeongchang with less points?! Smells like Rev Cho might have been taking some bribe money from the contributions box again!

The Korean version of the page looks more accurate:

Basic:

Siheung win the league and are promoted. With one match remaining, both Paju and Chungju are on 40 points for the second automatic promotion spot (Paju with the much better goal difference). Playoff qualification is completed for the third potential promotion spot: Paju/Chungju, Busan, and Yangju. The winner of that will face the team third-bottom from Advanced in the promotion-relegation playoff for a chance to go up.

The final round has a couple of tasty fixtures. Pity it wasn't Paju vs. Chungju, as Siheung and Busan will likely both field a number of their stiffs:

  • Siheung (1st) vs. Paju (2nd)
  • Busan FC (4th) vs. Chungju (3rd)

Advanced:

Gyeongju finish top of the league, but that only grants them passage through to the championship playoff final (there's no promotion to the National League) for a chance to win their third league title. Playoffs will also consist of Pocheon, Icheon, Chuncheon, and Gimcheon... errr, Gimpo. Gyeongju will face the winner.

At the other end of the table, 2017 Basic champions Seoul Jungrang Chorus Mustang (or whatever they're called now) finish dead last and are down. With one league match remaining, fighting to avoid the second automatic relegation spot are Cheongju (Jikji) and Jeonju, both on 17 points and both on a goal difference of -19. The team that finishes higher still gets dragged into the promotion-relegation playoff. Pyeongtaek, who won promotion via the 2017 Basic playoff after Siheung were unexpectedly eliminated in the first round, are safe from the drop.

These are likely the last K3 results to discuss here on the ROKfootball forum. :smt089
