Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has questioned if any World Cup bid has been won without "a pile of bungs".I'm confused about this, because I really thought that was how things were done. Qatar promises to invest and send stadium parts to developing football nations in return for their support in the World Cup bid. Is that not allowed? Were the guys at Titanic magazine just taking a wild stab in the dark when they started spoofing the bidding process in 2006 by promising everyone cuckoo clocks and sausages? Did Greg Dyke not notice?
Is it just my incorrigible cynicism or are all of these people expressing shock and outrage that bankers are routinely manipulating financial markets, intelligence agencies are all spying on one another and internet companies are completely gung-ho with people's private data just incredibly naive? Or do they have to fake the shock and outrage so that something gets done about it?
