Happy birthday to us

Postby Holyjoe » Mon Apr 06, 2015 4:51 am

:occasion5: :occasion4: :occasion7: :occasion9: :occasion5:

So it would appear from the joining date under my username on the desktop version of the forum that April 6th 2015 marks the tenth anniversary of our humble little forum here. That probably makes us older than about 50% of the current Korean football league member clubs :-)

Does this mean the old boards were a different forum and not just a different corporate entity?

Awesome milestone.....been around for most of those ten years lurking or posting and thanks to this site have had some great aways trips and met many of the former and current board members with quite a few good pissups held for good measure.

Here is to many more years of rokfootball magic...due to my wifes career I have at least 15 years left to spend on the ROK yet so hopefully get to meet a lot more board members.

Cheers chaps.. It's been said before but it's quite surprising how genial things are on this forum compared to how most internet forums usually end up.

Could do with getting Bluewings back for a bit to start calling the FC Seoul fans cunts again just to liven things up ;-)

I think a big difference between this site and other, excepting the fact it is not too big is that a lot of us meet each other quite regularly on our travels and are interested in just making our kleague experience more enjoyable, whereas on other internet forums that social factor isnt there which attracts a certain type of introverted trolling character and there is a lot more anonymity....

We should do a poll of the most memorable forum moment from the past ten years...

* sjc_three's road trip match reports?
* Bluewings ripping into FC Seoul fans at every opportunity
* bus porn
* RothesaySaint's circumvention of the rules during every single Prediction League campaign
* the endless computer game researchers trying to get us to do their research for them
* that journalist wifey who took nzfooty's comments about Seoul & Jeju and turned them verbatim into an interview article attributed to someone else
* the brilliantly enjoyable Korean football trivia thread
* nzfooty's excellent (and much appreciated) stattery
* mustoe winning Bucheon's catchphrase competition
* Ansan OB Rovers
* SeoulFox and MartyrsForever's zebra barbecue-related exchanges circa 2012
* everything about Zoran Urumov
* Happy birthday Goyang Kookmin Bank emails
* MipoFanatic's legendary "soon to be published" book :-)

Anything else?

You covered most of them there.

I like reading match reports from anyone, but especially K3 ones. It's always nice to hear just how crap the ref was.

The names for clubs as well. Ferrets is the latest in a long line of great nicknames.

Some of the running themes have been fun. Evergreen's repeated predicitions of doom just before everytime Daejeon won a match. We never got a pink tutu dance but we did get some some sort of hat eating from Tomzep. Another chance this year hopefully. Then there's the whole King Cha theme. Suwon really haven't done much since the majority of their fans campaigned to have him kicked out. It was particularly funny the way Mustoe was so miserable when he won something for them. njs banging on for ten years about how Anyang ought to have a team and then as soon as they get one he buggers off. And I don't think any of us have caught a match at mythical Muju yet, although anamerican claims to have been there.

Indeed, the names.. there have been some superb names on here in the past but the winner by a clear mile has to be Gwangju Fishcakes. I actually thought you had come up with that one Rothesay, but upon reflection it would appear Piggy deserves the credit for that one. I also quite like the Chickenwings playing at the Hen House :-)

Agree with you that all the match reports are entertaining, what stood out for me about Charlie's reports was just the general, almost wide-eyed, wonderment at pretty much everything that happened on his trips, particularly in the early days when he was discovering the weird and wonderful places in Korea that the National League takes you to for the first time. He's a pretty seasoned traveller so it wasn't so much in a 'first time overseas and everything is brilliant' way, more that every time him and his kid(s) went to a game something pretty cool happened, and then he'd go to another game and something even better would happen. I like that kind of positivity, I think he'd joined up on the board after I'd returned to Scotland so it was great to read his very in depth travel reports from games. It kind of served as a reminder of just how good we've got it following Korean football and how much bloody good fun the match days can be, irrespective of the quality on show on the pitch!

I was hoping nobody would bring up the King Cha stuff.. I had it in for him from 2005 when he binned Zoran and brought Sandro in so was way ahead of the game before the cool kids such as mustoe and Bluewings were getting in on the act ;) The Sandro signing kind of acted as a spur to do a bit more lower league groundhopping and then moving to Incheon later that year led me to follow Korail a lot more closely.. happy times.

Well well well. Congratulations on the milestone. A regular visitor to the site. It's a top source of info and banter. Love it. Like Matty said we've been on 2 or 3 ROK forum piss ups and they never fail to disappoint. Matty is back from NZ at the end of this year where we will sure be wizzing up and down the country on occasions following the mighty (or not so mighty) Gyeongnam FC.

I will raise a glass to another 10 years. I'm not going anywhere either for the forseeable future.
