Extra time it is. My wife is trying to jinx them by saying she wants Korea to lose. It isn't working.

So not having a striker did actually cost Korea in the end.

Playing extra time with a centre half up front was never the best of plans.

Need to naturalise someone before the World Cup I think.

Great tournament, great final. Well done Australia.

Korea flattered to deceive. The AFC isn't strong enough to expose their defensive frailties. The refereeing was poor at times, the booking for Kruse should be struck off.

There's quite a few strikers around before the need to go naturalising. I still think Kim Shin-ook has a role to play for them and there's Kim Seung-dae coming through. Ji Dong-won's good enough for the AFC.

If I'm honest I think they should be using the World Cup to build for the Asian Cup, not the other way around. Getting out of the group at the WC isn't worth nearly as much as winning the Asian Cup if you ask me.

Kroos should have been booked for diving surely? Noone touched him. Cunt.

I don't think you work for the KFA.

WC is always going to be the goal.

Either way, they need a striker. Wookie? Hasn't shown he has the chops. Let's keep Adriano in country till he becomes Kim Go Al and then get him in a red shirt.

He was subbed off straight after and is hobbling around on crutches now and needs to be lifted up onto the stage for the cup presentation. Maybe if he sits out for the next six months we'll at least have to give the cunt credit for going through with the act.

He wasn't touched though.

He either injured himself and then dived or injured himself diving. And he was booked for pissing about. If he was genuinely injured there was no need to piss about.

Surprised the Aussies didn't get a red in that game. Wasn't pretty.

???
He went down because he injured himself. He was receiving treatment because he was inured. The ref booked him. He's carried off on a stretcher. He's now on crutches. Is it pissing about?

If you are injured you go off on a stretcher and receive treatment off the field. Not piss about on it for ages. Ki Sung Yueng got the same for his pissing about. He might not have been so badly injured if he hadn't have dived. Cunt.

according to SteveW's facebook, he is deep into whiskey killing time inbetween the afc and euro league games so there is no winning this battle eujin (not until tomorrow  )

yea, the card came out right as he turned and said something to the official. there was a play before when kruse went down and no one touched him, in the box on the other end. that could have been a card, but they also missed it when Son (i think) tackled kruse on the side of the box and never touched the ball; korean goal kick given. so the ref missed some on both sides, but BACK to the discussion of the card; he came when kruse turned and said something to the ref. end of story on the dives or not.

the game was rather exciting. not sure how someone would have felt about the game who wasnt from asia, or maybe from the middle east who had no care about it, or someone like holyjoe who has given up on life by not having interest in this one. both teams were evenly matched i thought. korea was lucky cahill was out after 70 mins(?) or over time would have been a different story. when kruse was alone up top, he didnt have the confidence, neither did either replacement striker. Busan's McKay came on, shirt tucked in, but wasn't much of a force. Korea had to get Kwak Tae Hwi up top as they were going to just be PUMPING balls into the top 1/3 for the remainder of the first. after that, there were no more subs. one step at a time right? when the sub was made they were desperate for a goal so u cant blame Ste for playing the AET with that formation.

lack of defensive control saw korea on their heels for the 2nd goal, as well as a lack of someone to get in front of the net. how many times was a ball shot into the box, only to see one red shirt there waiting. everyone felt more comfortable from outside the box, korea has ton of midfielders and it showed (another reason eninho was naturalized years back). everyone is right on there not being a striker as of yet, looks like there wont be one for a few years to come, WC qualifiers start in about 2 years right?
well well well

There was too many red shirts sitting back when it was 1-0 mostly because they didn't have someone who really wanted to score.

2nd half was a lot of Korean pressure with no result. But they scored. After that it was kinda confused. Because they had a centrehalf up front.

All Korea lacks is a decent target man. Australia lacks a lot more in the bigger scheme of things.

yup, and leedonggook is that not that these days, nor is kim shinwook. they both would work well with someone quick and pacey moving off of them, but that would be more difficult to find that pair instead of just one striker.
well well well

on the Son/Kroos foul - wasn't that the one that came about after the ball deflected off the ref? I had the feeling he just gave a goal-kick to make up for the fact that he had gifted the chance to the Aussies.

In extra time I think Korea just ran out of ideas and juice. Might have been better sticking their extra defender back in defence and trying to hold out for penalties with the benefit of hindsight. Awful defending for the 2nd goal.

With that, and Aberdeen going out of the League Cup in the Semis last night it wasn't a happy day for football.

Korea start World Cup qualifying in June this year, that's in the first group stage with a bunch of teams they should breeze through. The AFC have changed things somewhat and these qualifiers will double as 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers too so that should kill two birds with one stone. I say they should breeze through, but they made very heavy work of getting past Lebanon, Kuwait and UAE at the same stage of the 2014 qualifiers. The stronger teams will be spread out a bit more this time around though as there will be eight groups of five instead of the five groups of four there were back then. They will most likely end up with someone like Cambodia, Brunei or Nepal as the fifth team... another 16-0 on the cards against the latter?
