Game over

Postby Holyjoe » Sun Sep 23, 2018 8:28 am

Been a fair old run since this board was set up in April 2005 following on from the untimely death of the footballinkorea forum (which in turn superceded the busanicons proboards page, the forerunner of all things discussionary around Korean football on ye olde interweb), but all good things must come to an end and as I no longer need an online webhosting package then our quaint little phpbb web forum is not much longer for this world.

So long, and thanks for all the bus porn... as Douglas Adams may have written, if he had ever discovered the delights of chasing down elegantly liveried team buses in strange locations.

Looks like mid-October is the date of the big plug pull so fill your boots one last time.. sjc_three's intrepid adventures, eujin & nzfooty's frequent contretemps, 48 Club, the Urumov love-ins, the Trivia thread, Martyrs/Zebras/Ferrets/Cabbages, mustoe's winning Bucheon catchphrase, Prediction League shennaniganery.. by Christ even Jamie Cureton had outlived this place... and MipoFanatic still hasn't published his book.

Aww, where else am I going to come to when I want to share my excitement about a Mokpo v Daegu quarter-final?

Farewell ROKfootball, thanks for making my time in Korea better!

That's a pity. While there are all sorts of K-League websites and social media accounts posting content these days, it's all very "one-way" in nature. Doesn't seem to be any other decent place to shoot the breeze.

Thanks for the long run, HJ.

For the level of action these days, surely a fb page or group will suffice...

Still here, still going to K3 matches.

Never use Facebook anymore but I do use reddit. Have seen OttoSilver posting there occasionally as well.
In Yangju, if your cabbage doesn't understand you and you have valid reason for not eating it, then it is ok to go to other vegetables for your kimchi - though strictly nothing from south of Namyangju. -- Martyrs Forever

I'll certainly be sad to see rokfootball go. We've had a lot of fun on here over the years. Going to the football was one of the best things about living in Korea and this forum made it much more interesting. Seems like the internet isn't what it used to be. Today it's all paywalls, fake news and data mining. A lot of places have shut down their comments and forums now. We had a nice friendly place here while it lasted, a quiet corner of sanity in a world gone mad. Don't think I quite managed my ambition of using all the smileys.
:clock: :sign3:

So SteveW, are you going to regale us with stories of your monster groundhop in SE Asia before the lights get turned off?

Really sorry to hear about the imminent closure. As I have told HJ many times, the board has helped me to stay sane in the days when I had too much to think. Alas, things had changed and in the last two or so years I have been a bit more "productive" in RL.
Always meant to come back here at some stage but didn't want this to happen under these circumstances. eujin had alerted me to the fact that the plug was about to be pulled so made my way here in some haste (re the frequent contretemps with eujin, he is absolutely the nicest person you could meet in RL, regretted some of my comments posted here in the past; it is easy to sound smart online while hastily editing wikipedia sources in the other tab*)

I was thinking that perhaps we should consider setting up a low-maintenance successor page somewhere. I understand that not everyone uses (or likes using) FB which is fair enough, but I guess we won't be able to please everyone. With that in mind what other options would are there?

* ok, so I didn't go quite that far

I see there is a reddit KLeague page. Are the lower leagues discussed in there?

Edit: I see not much of anything is discussed in there :(
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

The r/MLS sub allows discussion of lower leagues; I wonder if the same would be allowed in r/KLeague.

Otherwise we could just make r/rokfootball and discuss anything and everything there.
