Not been terribly impressed with the Euros so far. Think England have as good a chance as anyone right now. will be disappointing if both hosts go out at the first hurdle mind you. Is there someway France can go out?

England lose to Ukraine and France get pumped by Sweden would do it. Ukraine win the group and England go through on goal difference.

That penalty shootout in 1996 against Spain was the only one England have ever won.

Engerlanddddddddddddddddddd...That win just made my Wednesday so much more bearable. Had we lost it would have been a struggle!

They still would've gone through if they'd lost 2-1 to Ukraine.

Really? The whole thing is so complicated I long gave up trying to understand. The posts above this melted my brain. The Russian commentary certainly didn't help, so I was just working on the basis we needed to get more points than 2 other teams to be sure!

Good for England, I think being underdogs takes too much pressure from their shoulders. Chelsea's Champions League win has too much effect on this Euro. Every commentator mentions Chelsea's win at least twice in a game.
And there is also similarity between the way Chelsea and England play.

I am no fan of any country there, and not following the matches much as it is too late to watch in Korea. But I will support the team that has a Chelsea player.

I haven't seen much of the reporting of the England game, will be interesting to compare and contrast the reaction to a 'goal that never was' this time around vs 2 years ago.

If you're referring to Terry's goal line clearance, the German commentary thought it was too close to call, even with the replay. The morning after though and they're all at it. Spiegel's report did mention that the Ukrainians were offside in the build up to it.

Give them the goal. They'd still be out. England still win the group.

The last four hosts all out at the group stage. Two wins between them in 12 matches. Add to that South Africa failing to get through in 2010 and it doesn't look like Brazil have much to live up to as hosts in 2014. :albino:

Might not mean much to non-Brits but I think I'll end up having to buy a new telly if I have to listen to much more of that fuckwit Adrian Chiles doing the ITV coverage. They've had Jamie Carragher in the studio and he's a pain in the arse to listen to as well. The only halfway-decent pundit has been Roy Keane who looks like he will punch Chiles in the face at some point, so that would be rather entertaining if he did so. BBC not much better with Mark Lawrenson co-commentating, how he manages to con the BBC into paying him shitloads of money for a few snide comments and making fun of most of the non-English players he clearly doesn't know anything about every time a big tournament rolls around is beyond me. The irony meter was off the scale when he had a go at Podolski picking Germany over Poland. If he can't at least to pretend to be interested in watching the games he should fuck off back home so they can get Mick McCarthy to do a few more as he's been great when they've had him in.

Regarding Lawrenson this is a good read:

While we snack noisily at football’s Euro 2012 rich buffet, there is, in fact, a ghost at the feast. A voice of disquiet wailing faintly in the hinterland, portending great pain. Its name is Mark Lawrenson.

Lawrenson has been liberated from the soft, yielding Match of the Day sofa for this tournament and flown out to Poland and Ukraine for co-commentator duties.

This does not seem to have improved his mood. The term ‘world-weary’ barely scrapes at the surface of the former Liverpool defender’s deep melancholia. It is more of a ‘world-awareness’, an acute consciousness of all humanity’s ills, even while taking apart Germany's zonal marking defence at corners. Lawrenson has seen the future. And it is rubbish.

And so he skulks in the commentary box, braying like a punch-drunk donkey on Skegness beach, muttering like a grotty uncle at a wedding reception, maturating like a pile of wet cement, whimpering like a grieving panda, wilting like a melting Findus pancake.

Lawrenson is a bunch of petrol station carnations, the paper hat in a Morrisons Christmas cracker, a penguin with measles, an aborted dirty weekend in Milton Keynes. Lawrenson sounds like a man who has been used.

I had a bit of a brain freeze and paid for a month's VPN for the UK which lets me stream ITV.com (although not BBC, annoyingly) so I could get a reliable feed for the games. Why oh why did i not go for an Irish one and watch RTE. What an idiot. Chiles is insufferable. What was it he said about that Ukranian guy who's dad shot and killed his mum when he was 7, "he's bounced back from that"

Having not lived in the UK for something like ten years now, I've found my attitude to England mellowing over the years. I was what you'd probably call an ABE fan back in the day, unless they were playing Spain, but devoid of the inanely biased TV commentary, not seeing the British tabloids unless I go looking for them and bumping into considerably more fat and loud blokes in Germany shirts than England, they become just like any another nation in the footballing world. These days, the thought of an England shirt two sizes too small is more likely to bring to mind the ladies in this type of video than anything else. I grew up thinking that football was all about 4-4-2 with wide players whipping in crosses to robust centre forwards, box to box midfielders and little passing triangles in the direction of the goal and it was great to see them playing two upfront against Ukraine. All this 4-2-3-1 stuff and tiki-taka does my head in. Ridiculed by the Germans for their lack of success on the field, who nonetheless find it too painful to have a "proper" rivalry with them for historical reasons, I almost feel like; proud footballing tradition, passionate fans, would be nice to see them win one finally...

Oh, and my love for Italy has gone way down with all the blatant corruption.
