RENNES 0 NANCY 0 Sat April 17 2010 - 7pm KO
Went to this Ligue 1 game - a disappointing affair between a side that won't make Europe, and one that won't go down.
The French newspaper I bought gave it 2 stars (out of 6), one more than the other nil-nil of the day (Nice-Lens), so at least I wasn't at the worst worst game in Ligue 1

.
Sat behind the goal - the Rennes 'tifosi' seemed to be split into 2 distinct groups, one red (60+ geriatrics and nerds), the other black (teenage cool cats). 2 of the red geriatrics were identical twins, even the gestures they used to heckle their own players were identical!
Seeing this was worth the admission money alone (9 euros), and I really enjoyed seeing the rows of brasserie and food stalls lining the route to and opposite/outside the stadium.
So many aspects of this match made me appreciate that so much of what makes the live football experience so great has little to do with what actually goes on on the pitch.
Beautiful weather for the 3 days I spent in Brittany/Normandy, and I was able to fulfill a long-standing ambition by visiting Mont St Michel.
Although this was my umpteenth visit to France, I was also reminded why French women are so hot......!
Photos will have to wait until I return to Oz - whenever this volcanic cloud lets up!
