Famous namesakes

Postby eujin » Wed Dec 16, 2015 9:06 am

I've looked up a lot of Korean players on the internet over the years and it's not uncommon that the person returned isn't the person I'm looking for. Maybe it's that thing with Koreans all having the same name. But I was wondering how often does this actually happen and so decided to start a list. Most of them seem to be K-poppers and some of you probably look that up more than I do footballers, so feel free to add to the list. I'm mainly interested in footballers that masquerade as girls, but I guess it could just as easily be guys as well.

Hong Jeong-Ho 홍정호 She won gold, silver and bronze in Olympic handball and then went on to play for Jeju and Augsburg.

Kim Ki-hee 김기희 Called up to the senior national side from Jeonbuk and played in Qatar for al-Sailiya, but not before he won a silver medal in the women's Paralympic archery.

Kim Bo-kyung 김보경 Sometimes of the national team and Premier League, but other times on the telly and according to Wikipedia also in a band called The Grace under the stage name Stephanie.

Bae Seul-ki 배슬기 By day he holds the line for Pohang but at home he has a special wardrobe.

Near misses should also be allowed
Nam Tae-hee 남태희, only a family name away from getting married to Rain.

An Jong-bok He already has a statue in Busan to commemorate his sailing exploits, but four hundred years later he's bribing referees as President of Gyeongnam.

E-Land defender Cho Hyang-ki looked a lot better out of the leopard print.

E-Land RB Kim Tae-eun plays like he is wearing those heels most of the time.

It speaks volumes when the Outside View's pin-up Seo Dong-hyun turns out to be a 12 year-old boy.

Suwon's loanee midfielder to Ansan Kim Eun-son 김은선 doesn't just dance and sing. Having written a book about her experiences defecting from North Korea she also finds time to direct the Dresden State Opera and the Stuttgart Philharmonic.

Lee Seung-hee 이승희 played 120 times for Jeonnam from 2010-2014 and also had a loan spell at Jeju in there. Is that why MrRyanWalters and the K-League United boys are such big Jeonnam fans? Now at Suphanburi in Thailand... just about managed to avoid a NSFW tag there ;-)

Ansan's goalkeeper (on loan from Anyang) Lee Jin-hyung 이진형 is also an assistant professor of neuroscience at Stanford University. Apparently, she's trying to find the secret to eternal life, which somehow involves killing mice, but then what do I know about brain surgery?

OK, the last one is scraping the barrel of famous somewhat but we now have a goalkeeper, a bunch of singing midfielders and defenders in high heels, a school boy striker, a four hundred year-old chairman and a coach with a see-through blouse. We have enough for a team!

Is there no Cho Won-hee in the magical world of K-pop? Disappointing. There's a Kim Won-hee on the telly:

And surely somewhere in the history of Korean football there must be a Kim Tae-hee somewhere. There's a Lee Tae-hee at Seongnam and a Nam Tae-hee in the national team, but no Kim Tae-hee???
