Postby FCSeoul » Sun Sep 23, 2012 3:51 pm

Son Heung-Min a product of the Hamburg Youth Academy. He had a slow start this season, but seems to be doing well right now.

We have a thread for him here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2478&hilit=Son+Heung+Min
already.

Son Heung-min has a talent, if he develops well.
In that thread I already expressed my opinion about him.

By the, 2nd goal was class! Hope, he keeps his consistency. Dortmund are German Champions, so it was a cracking performance against the Champions.

Not much being reported about it here in Korea....if this was in the EPL, the Korean public would be creaming their pants over this.

He scored twice as Hamburg beat champions Dortmund 4-1 away. The first goal was a real beauty from the corner of the box. Season tally up to nine now. It might be time soon for the Korean public to start creaming their pants over this guy.

Not sure what would count as "creaming their pants" but I watch the Korean tv news most days and he regularly appears on the Sports bulletin at the end of the news programme, even when he hasn't actually scored.

Recently, his exploits have quite often been THE headline sports story, but even last season he was quite often being mentioned on KBS and MBC's sports bulletins.

I would agree that had he been playing for a big English team, his face would be being plastered around Korea a hell of a lot more. But I don't agree that the Korean media haven't covered him much. The home page on my home PC is set to Naver, and he's pretty often one of the sports headlines on there.

Koreans obviously want to read about Korean success stories amongst their overseas players and Son is definitely the easiest one to keep readers/viewers happy with news about him these days. Ki at Swansea is playing in the Premier League and is doing reasonably ok. But he doesn't score much and the best the news sports bulletins can come up with for him is clips of one of his many over ambitious shots from distance that didn't miss by quite so much as most of the others. :D

Could be about to happen, the Chosun Ilbo have this with quotes from the Sunday People (and on Google both the Daily Mail and Sunday Mirror have run with these quotes):

Manchester United Set Eyes on Son Heung-min
Feb. 18, 2013

Manchester United have jumped into the competition for young Hamburg star Son Heung-min, the Sunday People reported last weekend. The British weekly called both Manchester United and Chelsea "Son worshippers."

"Sir Alex Ferguson's scouts are camped out at Hamburg for the exciting young attacker, who could be sold for around 10 million pounds this summer," it said.

The Telegraph recently predicted that Ferguson will replace wingers such as Nani in the summer. The right midfielder has struggled with just two goals in 15 games this season due to an ankle injury and plays the same position as Son often does for the Bundesliga outfit.

Meanwhile, "Chelsea -- who would love an Asian idol in their squad -- are also keen on the youngster, whose dazzling skill and goals are being compared to Cristiano Ronaldo," the weekly said.

He was linked with Schalke in the German media last week. If you look at the transfermarkt.de page he's been linked with just about every big club in Germany and England. http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/heung-min-son/geruechte/spieler_91845.html
He's obviously got a busy agent (his dad?)
