Re: 2015 Chinese Super League
There was an article in the news saying that the two biggest spending countries in the recent January transfer window were England and China. They were referencing a report from Deloitte which I haven't seen.
While the English are unlikely to dominate the UEFA Champions League despite their spending, I wonder if the same is true for China in the AFC, if indeed they are outspending the likes of Germany, Spain and Italy.

Yes, they do, but that happens because in China is the start of the season, but in the European leagues no. If in Europe was the start of the season was different.

Re: 2015 Chinese Super League
I guess they need to overpay to persuade people to move which explains the huge salaries but the transfer fees seem to be hugely inflated going to China as well. Henan are paying £1.5m for a Hearts striker who was coming to the end of his contract and they could have had for free in the Summer. Seems to be just silly right now. That must be one of the biggest fees Hearts have ever received for a player and he's not even all that great. 9 goals in 22 Premiership matches and 11 in 22 in the Championship last season. That must make Adam Rooney worth about 5m in China and Joomes worth about 10m.

Re: 2015 Chinese Super League
I know its nothing for them but surely someone somewhere must think 'They'll probably take 500k for him' rather than bid 1.5m. It's not like the Chinese aren't used to hard negotiating...ever tried to buy something from the fakey market?

Re: 2015 Chinese Super League
Noticed on Twitter someone made the point that the domestic Chinese players are even more ridiculously overpriced with NT guys valued at more than 40m by their clubs. Guess that would explain why not many Chinese players are going abroad and also why they are willing to pay so much for 'cheap' foreigners who are also better players.
Still not sure it explains why they pay over the odds for journeymen pros from the SPFL though.

Do the Chinese divisions have domestic-player quotas?

They're only allowed so many foreigners yes. Can't remember the exact rules. So yes every big team obviously wants to get the best Chinese talent. A bit like Europe when they had the 3 foreigners rule I guess.

Think they're allowed 5 in their squad but can only play the usual 3+1

1 being asian?
wonder if the kleague would go to that 4+1 roster... it would simply only allow the big squads more power so i am sure someone is going to have to bribe the kfa for it to happen
well well well

Re: 2015 Chinese Super League
I actually did a bit of research on this for a possible podcast and as far as I can tell, these are the various quotas for the main leagues in Asia:
2+1 naturalised: Vietnam,
3+1: India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Japan, Korea, Iran (GK allowed), Saudi, Uzbek, Qatar (but non-pros and naturalised allowed), Indonesia (but only 3 may play)
4: UAE, Jordan (?)
4+1: (3+1 to play) Thai, China,
5: Singapore, Australia,
5+1: (3+1 to play) Hong Kong,
2+1 naturalised: Vietnam,
3+1: India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Japan, Korea, Iran (GK allowed), Saudi, Uzbek, Qatar (but non-pros and naturalised allowed), Indonesia (but only 3 may play)
4: UAE, Jordan (?)
4+1: (3+1 to play) Thai, China,
5: Singapore, Australia,
5+1: (3+1 to play) Hong Kong,
