Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The first round of the premier league is going on at Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang from February 20.

Participating in the soccer matches, which will continue till March 22, are nine male and eight female teams that scored good results in total standings of local tournaments held last year.

This year's local tournaments are drawing attention of soccer experts and fans as they are held in a round robin to correctly assess the competence of every team.

The Ministry of Light Industry Sports Group and the April 25 Sports Group won the male and female soccer matches respectively in the national championships last year.

First Round of Premier League Ends

Pyongyang, March 25 (KCNA) -- The first round of the premier league which had begun on February 20 in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has come to an end.

It, which took place amid growing public interest in football, touched off by the DPRK's winning qualification for the World Cup, showed a considerable improvement of all the teams ((9 male and 8 female teams) in tactical, physical and technical aspects.

The Rimyongsu, Mangyongbong and Sobaeksu teams took the first three places respectively in the male matches, while the April 25, Wolmido and Jebi teams in female matches.

The second round will begin on March 27.

Premier Soccer League Ends

Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- The second round of the premier soccer league took place at Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang from March 27 to April 29 within the framework of the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Contest.

Participating in the matches were eleven male and nine female teams.

Rimyongsu and April 25 teams finished first again in male and female matches respectively after winning the top place in the first round.

New Premier League Round Begins

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The third round of the premier league soccer matches has begun in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as part of the Sports Contest for Pochonbo Torch Prize.

Participating in the matches are eight male and six female teams.

In the first male match held on Monday the Sobaeksu team won a 1:0 victory over the Rimyongsu team, which finished the first in the previous two rounds.

The matches will continue at Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang till May 31.

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The third round of the premier league soccer matches took place at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang from May 10 to 31 as part of the Sports Contest for Pochonbo Torch Prize.

Participating in the matches were eight male and six female teams.

The Sobaeksu men's team (seven matches, five wins, one draw and one loss) and the April 25 women's team (five matches, four wins and one draw) took the first place.

The Pyongyang and Amnokgang teams finished second in the male and female matches respectively, while the Kigwancha and Rimyongsu teams third.

In the second round held as part of the Mangyongdae Prize Sports Contest, the Sobaeksu men's team took the fourth place and the April 25 women's team won the top place.

Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The fourth round of the premier league soccer matches has begun at Kim Il Sung Stadium on Thursday.

Participating in the matches are eleven male and eight female teams.

In the first day's men's matches the Ponghwasan team and the Amnokgang team defeated the Ministry of the Light Industry team and the Mangyongbong team 3:0 and 4:1 respectively.

The Rimyongsu and Sobaeksu men's teams and the April 25 women's team are expected to make a strong claim for the title.

These teams gained good results in the previous three rounds.

The fourth round continues till July 17.

Participating in the matches were eleven men's and eight women's teams.

The April 25, Sobaeksu and Amnokgang teams took the first three places in the men's matches and the April 25, Amnokgang and Jebi teams in the women's matches.

Eighty-three matches (55 men's matches and 28 women's matches) took place in the latest round and 227 goals were recorded, 2.7 goals per match.
