When will Stielike get sacked?

Postby SteveW » Sun Feb 01, 2015 12:33 am

Didn't win the Asian Cup so he's on borrowed time. Team hasn't looked much better than under HMB. A bit more solid at the back but surely part of that is just not picking JSR. Will he keep his job until the next World Cup?

If he's not the man to take them through the finals then I don't think he's the man to take qualifying.... his job looks shaky. Should have kept HMB.

I was mostly joking with the thread title but have to say I don't really see much improvement with Stielike in charge. Presumably that's more or less his squad (minus Cha) for the qualifiers and somehow I just can't see him being on the plane to Russia in 3 and a bit years time.

If he makes it all the way through qualification then he'll hold the record for longest unbroken stint as Korean national team boss... something to aim for there then.

Korean National Team Politics make me miss home.

Rugby coach takes the Springboks to world number 1 and a few months later the raises the World Cup and becoming the IRB Coach of the year for a second time. But wait, his contract is up. Lets not renew it.

Someone, please tell me Korea can beat that.
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

No idea if its a creditable source or not but he'll already be thinking about working his ticket out of Korea no doubt.

Of course when your NT manager thinks your league is shite its probably best to move him on anyway. The K-League may not be the Bundesliga but its a sight better than half the other leagues Stielike is picking his players from. Maybe he'd do a bit better if he actually picked some players from the home league instead of just selecting anyone and everyone who doesn't?

he is the first coach to select a 2nd tier player to make a debut in how long? that's probably the reason he should stay.

He doesn't actually say anything about Korean education in the intervew does he? So the headline "Uli Stielike Questions Korean Education Over Players’ Lack of Creativity" is a bit manufactured. He only recounts the story about the Martian look, mentions the Europeans players are better prepared and says how important it is to be able to speak to the players in their own language.

When does Lee Jeong-hyeop become a second tier player? As of the last match of the season?

If Stielike is trying to work his ticket out of Korea then it won't be to take the Egypt job, he was apparently offered it (or at least contacted about it in an official capacity) and he said he'd rather stay put.

Stielike has now gone something like 273 games as Korea boss without conceding a goal.. he's setting records left, right and centre it would seem. And I reckon he could take Guus Hiddink in a fight...
