Greece away friendly (05/03/14)

Postby Holyjoe » Sat Jan 04, 2014 7:36 am

This looks like it will be a proper away friendly for the KNT with the game scheduled to take place in the Greek city of Piraeus.

Is the KFA paying the HFF to play against them in Greece?

120 quid will get you a return on Easyjet from Edinburgh to Athens...probably a bit too early in year for a holiday though.

To be honest, always found it hard to get into the Korean NT. If I was married to a Korean, it might be different, particularly if we had kids. Piraeus is awesome - basically the port of Athens, great bars and clubs and some of the best seafood restaurants you'll ever come across, but it's a bridge too far for me. If it was a Busan Transport friendly - that might be a different story! ;)

The squad. Park Chu-young's one substitute appearance for Watford was enough to earn him a recall, and thought Cha Du-ri's call-up was a bit of a surprise. Most of these players will be going to Brazil:

Only four outfield players from the K-league and one of them is in the army. There were 10 outfield players from the K-league in the 2010 World Cup squad.

It's also a very young squad and of the older players like Cha Du-ri and Pak Chu-yeong you wonder if they'll get in to the final squad, let alone get a game.

Cha's out of the Greece game, he picked up a knock during the ACL game against Central Coast Mariners and he'll be sitting this one out. Hong's going to call up a replacement but he hasn't decided who yet.

A 2-0 win for Korea then and Park Chu-young will have booked his ticket to Brazil with that opening goal. An absolutely thumping finish from Son Heung-min for the second too:

Happy for South Korea winning that game vs Greece. Happy for Park too, and who knows this will probably increase his chances of playing for Watford more. Also Korea beat Greece 2-0 and they beat Russia 1-0 recently(ish) in the Euros so if they perform like that then its another reason why they can progress through in the World Cup
One day Michael Brown might score.

Pretty respectable result that. Really hope Park Chu Young can find some form before the Summer. He was excellent at the last World Cup.
