Friendly v Peru (14/08/13 in Suwon)

Postby Holyjoe » Fri Jun 14, 2013 8:16 pm

So says the Peruvian media anyway:

Peru to play international friendly against South Korea
14/06/13

Peru’s national soccer team will play a friendly match against South Korea later this year, El Comercio reported.

The match will be played in Seoul on August 17, less than a month before Peru faces Uruguay during the next round of qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

According to the daily the Peruvian soccer federation is also looking at scheduling a second internationally friendly this year. Although no rival has been announced for the match, it would reportedly be played in the U.S.

Last Tuesday Peru lost against 2-0 against Colombia, dampening hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

La Blanquirroja is currently seventh in the regional standings, with 14 points, trailing Venezuela and Uruguay, who are both tied at 16 points.

The top four teams in the region will automatically qualify for the World Cup, while the fifth spot will play an intercontinental playoff against the fifth ranked team from the Asian Football Confederation.

Peru’s last World Cup appearance was in 1982.

This game has now been confirmed by the KFA, however they're giving a date of August 14th instead of the 17th as mentioned in the article above.

Not Seoul any more as the KFA have announced it will take place at the Suwon World Cup stadium. Better change the thread title. Still being played on August 14th though.

So that would be this Wednesday! Thanks!

Hopefully my local Hanna Bank has ordered the right colour ticket paper after being unable to sell me tickets for the Iran game. Grr! ^^

Strange they're confirming this after tickets have already gone on sale, but K-League club season ticket holders will get a 30% discount on match tickets if they present their season ticket when buying for this game.

There is also a trophy at stake for this match, the winner is to be presented with a commemorative '한국-페루 50주년 수교기념 트로피' ("Korea-Peru 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations commemorative trophy"). If they can win that one then it'll clearly soften the blow of not winning the East Asian Championship.

On the KFA site they're talking about the match as a "qualification for the World Cup congratulations" match. I wonder if Choi Kang-hee will be there to bask in the fans' gratitude.

The press are saying that Hong Myeong-bo needs a win in this one. I'm not so sure he does, but it would certainly help. He's still calling up a very inexperienced squad.

I think it would be wise to judge Hong after he manages a few (or at least one!) match with the A International Team.

I only watched the first 20mins, but cant blame him because the only experienced player was Lee Keunho and he looked a class above others.
