2017 Korean FA Cup Rounds 1 & 2

Postby Holyjoe » Thu Feb 23, 2017 8:06 am

The draw for the first two rounds of the FA Cup was made today, plenty of amateur and university sides joining in the fun with it all kicking off on March 11th. Forgot about this. I'm so used to the Martyrs not getting in. Shame the Goyang game isn't away in Gangneung. Still we should beat the students....although you never know....the Rev. Cho's probably done a deal with the devil to allow the Catholic university to sneak through in exchange for his name being dropped when Korea's looking for a new top church dog.

In Yangju, if your cabbage doesn't understand you and you have valid reason for not eating it, then it is ok to go to other vegetables for your kimchi - though strictly nothing from south of Namyangju. -- Martyrs Forever

Attended the match between Uijeongbu and Seoul Jungnang on Saturday. The first half was fairly even between the two sides with Jungnang looking more dangerous for the first 25 minutes and Uijeongbu stronger for the final 15 minutes before halftime. Uijeongbu suffered from poor passing going forward throughout the match and their defenders did not do well with any aerial balls in front of goal. The second half saw a few more Uijeongbu chances but Jungnang were clearly the more organized and clinical side between the two.

I counted 72 people in the stands at kick-off but the official match attendance is 120. Make of that what you will. On to the pictures ...

Image
Uijeongbu 0:1 Jungnang / 김재호 (No.20) outjumps three defenders to place a header between the keeper and a defender on the line.

Image
Uijeongbu 1:1 Jungnang / 이용승 equalizes with a header.

Image
Uijeongbu 1:2 Jungnang / 김재호 played through with a nice pass and scores his second.

Image
Uijeongbu 1:3 Jungnang / 박재철 charges up, draws out the keeper, then lays it back to 김재호. 3 assists for 박재철, 3 goals for 김재호.

Image
Uijeongbu 1:4 Jungnang / 송민영 (No.9) with the header. Uijeongbu's keeper grabbed it but only after it crossed over the goal line.

Uijeongbu 2:4 Jungnang / Penalty for Uijeongbu put away by 엄시준.

Image
Uijeongbu 2:5 Jungnang / Defender 여인언 scores Jungnang's fifth. Not sure how the keeper missed stopping that one.

Once again United fail to make it pass the first round.
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

Uni teams are probably training 5 days a week, twice a day. I'm surprised anyone other than the op 4 in K3 can beat them.

If you look here, some of the students look about 30. They've pulled the ex-pro ringers in!

Here sign-up for a 4-week course in foot massage therapy and you can play for the team! When we get knocked out of the cup, you're a qualified masseuse! Win-Win!
