2014 KFA Cup Second Round

Postby Holyjoe » Sun Mar 23, 2014 7:44 pm

First round thread here.

Twenty sides won through from the first round ties played on March 22/23, that number is made up of fifteen university sides and five Challengers League sides. The Second Round will see those twenty sides go into the hat with the ten National League and ten K League Challenge (K2) sides with the winners progressing to the Third Round when the K1 big boys enter the fray.

Second Round ties are due to be played on the weekend of April 4/5, no date as yet has been set for making the draw but it should be pretty soon. Would presume the draw will be seeded with the first round teams in one pot and K2/KNL in another.

Teams involved:

K League Challenge: Ansan Police, Anyang, Bucheon, Chungju, Daegu, Daejeon Citizen, Gangwon, Goyang, Gwangju FC, Suwon FC

National League: Busan TC, Changwon, Cheonan City, Daejeon Korail, Gangneung, Gimhae, Gyeongju HNP, Mokpo, Ulsan Mipo, Yongin

Challengers League: Yangju, Chuncheon, Pocheon, Hwaseong, Jungnang Chorus Mustang

University sides: Sangji, Hannam, Dongeui, Hanyang, Incheon, Dankuk, Sungkyunkwan, Youngnam, Chosun, Soongsil, Gwangju, Aju, Kyunghee, Konkuk, Hongik

I'm hearing that we will play this game on Wednesday 9th. Gutted. Was really excited to head down to Mokpo.

Suwon City vs. Hwaseong FC - Maybe a nice little local derby.
Other than that agreed boring.

I did wonder about that because there is full round of K2 fixtures scheduled on the K-League website.

Anyang's game is on April 9th as well, guess it's a midweek round rather than the preceding weekend? Not all dates and times are fixed yet and the calendar in the National League guidebook definitely has the games down as April 5/6.

Have to say I'm surprised they've gone for an open draw this round, particularly as the first round was seeded and I really don't see them making it an open draw when the K1 sides enter in the next round. They bloody well should, as that's how you should do cup draws, but I just can't see them running the risk of a shedload of top tier sides going out at the first hurdle.

Yongin City have only ever won one FA Cup tie, a 1-0 win against Kyunghee University last year, and there's little chance of them making it past Gangwon this season given how they've started 2014. Not a great draw for Daejeon Citizen either given that Mokpo seem to be on fire...

Reading on a Daum cafe that this game has already been confirmed at the Suwon World Cup practice pitch with a 2pm kick-off on April 9th...

A few results from today:

Jungnang Chorus Mustang 2-1 Gwangju Uni
Ulsan Mipo 2-1 Gimhae
Pocheon 1-0 Chuncheon

Yangju were apparently 2-1 up on Cheonan City going into injury time before conceding an equaliser. Extra time was being played there.

Changwon City 2-0 Hanyang University
Gangneung City 1-1 (4-1 pen) Busan Transportation
Cheonan City 3-2 Yangju
Ulsan Mipo 2-1 Gimhae

Would love to see Pocheon and Jungnang get a crack at K1 sides in the next round.
