Korean Football Trivia Thread

Postby njs » Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:30 pm

Got the idea from a sport forum I frequent in NZ. Apologies if there's already one going.

Post any trivia questions here. The person that answers correctly poses the next question. They can be on anything to do with Korean football and preferably not too obscure for obvious reasons. Hints are helpful if things stall.

1. When the K-League kicked off in 1983 it had no title sponsor for over ten years, but it picked one up for the 1994 and 1995 seasons. Who were they? (Hint, you will all know 'them', I can fucking well guarantee it). :drunken:

Congratulations. You are the inaugural winner. Even if you never achieve anything else in life nobody can ever take this away from you.

answer to your question: cheollasamnambokgunggangshallashallapaboya!

Nah to be honest I can't think of it. Disgrace for a Geography teacher. Off to study now.

The unrepresented province must be Chungcheongbuk-do?

Here's one then (and no looking up the league tables!):

3. Taking the geographical names of the 46 current league clubs from K1 to K3, 21 of them end with the same letter. What is it? (and for bonus points name the clubs)

Must be "n".
But, "ng" is also much.

Suwon
Seongnam
Pohang
Daejeon
Incheon
Ulsan
Busan
Gangnam
Goyang
Ansan
Yongin
Icheon

etc etc, I'm about ten short...

as a ruling, the correct answer)rer) of a question is the person who gets the last part of a question, even if somebody has answered 97% and somebody else comes along and adds the last 3% they are the geezer who killed it. If you reckon you are right, googling it to confirm is legit.

Suwon, Seongnam and Pohang all end in the same letter? What are you drinking tonight njs?

Bucheon
Asan
Icheon
Pocheon
Chuncheon
Cheonan
Ansan
Busan X2
Changwon
Daejeon X2
Incheon X2
Suwon X2
Ulsan X2
Yongin
Gangwon

Which I think makes 20. Gyeongnam play in Changwon, so that's 21. Or I'll borrow njs's Gangnam. They're bound to have a team that ends in "n".

Suwonesque answered the real question first though, so he has to come up with the next question.

There a K3 and N-league team in Cheonan. Gwangju Gwangsan finishes in N as well, so 22!

I just wanna give a shout out to this whole forum for helping get a perfect score in the "Korean Sports" category in tonight's quiz night. I did get into an argument about what the soccer league was called in 1983 though. :smt119

Good call on Gwangsan, didn't think to include that. Bonus points for local knowledge then ;)

Suwonesque of course got the real question correct so we're waiting for the next one.

Well, my question will be very easy...

Which company sponsored K-league title more than any other sponsors in K-League history?

That'll be Samsung (Hauzen)... should have facilitated it for Suwon to win the title a bit more often ;)

Here's one then - there's an old trivia question which I'm sure is still the same, that Hull City is the only league club in Scotland or England that contains no letters that can be coloured in. Going by the full hangeul names of clubs in K1-K3 I reckon there are four with no Korean characters that can be coloured in (ie no ㅁ, ㅍ, ㅇ, ㅎ etc). Can you name them?

Daejeon Citizen, Daegu FC and Jeonju EM? Not sure on the fourth, Jeonbuk maybe, or does their name include Motors? Daejeon HNP?

Rothesay's three of Daegu FC, Daejeon Citizen and Jeonju EM plus Chuncheon FC.

Full Hangul names means things like 대전 시티즌 프로축구단 and 대구시민프로축구단 and 춘천시민축구단 does it? Or what do I know? How does one render Hull City Association Football Club in Hangul?
