Now they are planning on 'reviewing' the choice of name and may end up changing it because of the whole 홍어 thing

Whilst they'll probably play it safe and go with United now, Sampo's suggestion of Rangers (or even Raiders) would be close enough to what was originally suggested and considerably more sensible.

Looks like Sampo could be getting a season ticket in the post... :smt113

Aye they've officially confirmed they've decided to ditch Rayers and go with Gwangju FC instead.

What a shame!

Any word on what the 'FC' stands for? I would guess fifty percent of the club's organization wouldn't know.

Not found a decent-sized image of the new logo anywhere yet but the club crest was unveilled at the official club launching ceremony today... giving Suwon a run for their money in the chicken wings stakes it would appear.

The top image does seem to be a chicken. The larger image seems to be something more like the phoenix in Harry Potter.

The crest isn't terrible, borrowing heavily from Liverpool's chicken but that's par for course.

The former Gwangju military club were officially known as "Gwangju Sangmu Bulsajo", which means "Gwangju Army Phoenix":

Maybe it's a nod to that, minus the military connotations.

Probably a 봉황, which has connections to the Baekje Kingdom.
