From the awesome pictures, clearly the track and field world championships will be returning to Korea very soon.

Any update on what the Hwaseong stadium is going to be used for? Anyone expressed an interest?

My in-laws live in Hwaseong - a fine base for the Rovers potentially.

Does anyone have any links to photos of the New Incheon Stadium in action? It would be nice to see it while they are still in the K League. :P

As fair trade, here's a link to the re-opening of BC Place for the Whitecaps, from Oct. 2011: http://www.whitecapsfc.com/panorama-pho ... r-bc-place

I don't know. I can't see the image now to remember what the place looks like.

Actually twitter and search engines are full of images. You can also find the whole first match online for free, at least in Korea.

Here are a few....

In the first few minutes Suwon Samsung Bluewings fans decided to christen the new stadium in style.

Looks bloody nice though it does have the obligatory running track... Hwaseong Thistle FC anyone?

Incidentally, Hwaseong is also going to be the home of the Korean Universal Studios Theme Park (pencilled in for 2014) so ideal for a sponsorship tie-in there I would have thought.

Hwaseong Universal FC it is then. Has a ring of the NY Cosmos to it.

This thread might get lost over time since this forum isn't for stadiums per se. Maybe it should be moved to the other forum.

Work has begun on the stupidly-big and really rather unnecessary Asian Games stadium in Incheon:

From page three of this thread, the plans for the venue:

Yang Yang has more than its fair share of government pork spending. There's the airport of course, but also the Osan-ri prehistoric museum (at least there were some artifacts found to justify it somewhat), the Yangyang campus of Gwandong University (now shutdown), the Yangyang insecterium (now closed), YangYang "Energy World" Museum, my own work place the English camp and training center for Gangwon Province, and they are building a velodrome next to the airport!

Is there any obvious reason why all these riches are heaped on Yang Yang in particular?

Probably because they had some powerful politician from there OR the province wanted to develope that region. Whatever the case it isnt an accident.

So Munhak AND this white-elephant are going to sit there unused for the next 25 years? What a joke.

Korea really is going to go broke if they continue this reckless path of low-taxes AND the most wasteful spending imaginable.

If only there were a nearby example of exactly what this will lead to....oh right! Japan for most of the last 20 years now!
