I was also at a match that only lasted 77 minutes. That's surely a sign of the end of days.

I hadn't thought this through, maybe famine would apply to someone who has spent years watching teams in Korea that never win?

I personally love white kimchi and happy for anyone to lunch me for saying so.

Can't beat a bit of K3. :-)

Stop the presses!

The same Yangju team that struggled to record a 1-2 win against Goyang last week just ended Siheung’s perfect record while down a man. More later when I’m not delirious.

Fuck me, I should check in on this place more often. It's been a while.

Not as long as Seoul United's last win though. They beat Pyeongchang 5-3 on Saturday, their previous league victory had come a whopping 694 days prior to that

Yangju 2:0 Siheung

Thrilling match that more than made up for the uninspired performance last week.

Siheung had their undefeated record ended on Saturday though not through lack of trying. Despite going home without a goal they had 4 shots hit the post and another 2 hit the underside of the crossbar. Our keeper also made a few good saves to keep a clean sheet, though the defense earns credit for not making it easy for Siheung to get shots on target.

The first half was dominated by Siheung and Yangju were called for a number of minor fouls as the players tried to break up attacks. Siheung were a bit dirty themselves -- while waiting for a goal kick Siheung's no. 8 leaned into a Yangju player, made contact at the shoulder, then fell down clutching his arm and shouting. If football doesn't work out for him I suppose he can pursue a career in acting. Siheung's no. 10 also got involved by blocking our keeper whenever it was time for a goal kick or free kick and then running away and complaining to the referee about time wasting.

Yangju's no. 15 came off temporarily with blood streaming down the side of his face in the first half after an aerial challenge and our diminutive no. 11 had to receive treatment in the second half for a bloody nose after getting elbowed in the face by a Siheung player. Cue several minutes of anxious waiting on both occasions while I wondered if a 10-man Yangju side could hold off a stream of Siheung attacks. Then our no. 32 was sent off in the 73rd minute and the real fun began ...

I was expected Siheung to grab a couple of goals after the red card but the defense kept Siheung from getting many chances to shoot and the team was extremely good at launching counterattacks and getting several players forward across the pitch. The crowd also rallied behind the players with cheers going up every time someone started a run up the pitch with the ball or the defense tackled the ball away.

I've complained about the team's inability to score from open play over the past few weeks but both goals Saturday came from quick counters. No. 11 and no. 13 were both good at racing up the wing, skipping around a defender or two, then squaring the ball for an onrushing teammate. Defender 정상호 scored twice (78', 90') but we did have a few other chances that the keeper blocked. The best 'near goal' though was the clearance from our keeper that looped over everyone and forced the Siheung keeper to scramble back and punch the ball away to avoid conceding.

Yangju move up to joint-third with the win, 4 points behind Siheung who are still in first.

Only one loss this season (vs. Paju) but a 1-1 draw against current-bottom Uijeongbu and a meager 1-2 win against Goyang aren't great results for a team looking to promote. Should I expect a close match against Seoul United as well?

Well then, it seems I chose a perfect time to get back into K3. It feels like that is about the same number of days since my last game.

This was a really entertaining game. I won't call most of the goals quality, but they were often spectacular. There was even a rocket from outside the box.

Did you all know they had a waeguk coach, or more likely assistant? I arrived at the stadium with a whole 2 other people in the home section already. Both waeguks. How weird is that? Turns out one is the sister and one the girlfriend of the assistant.

On that note, did anyone mention already that Siheung have a Brazilian as coach?

Zebs win and Holyjoe returns. Coincidence?
Now tied with us on one win and a draw.....we went down 6-0 to Buyeo. Abysmal. I never thought I'd be grateful for Uijeongbu....

Brilliant display from Yangju last week and we follow it up with a 1-1 draw away at Yeoju. Our lone goal was scored from a defender in the 90th minute. Bah.

The team is seventh in the standings but technically tied for fourth spot. Still only two points behind Paju in second so hope springs eternal at promoting straight back up. Unfortunately, we've got the worst GD that isn't a negative number ...

Shockingly, I just checked the K3 Advanced standings and see that Pocheon are in second place, 9 points behind Gyeongju in first.

R8: Yangpyeong 3:3 Pocheon
R7: Pocheon 1:4 Jeonju
R5: Pocheon 0:3 Icheon
R3: Gimpo 2:1 Pocheon

We're back into Jokesville at the bottom of the Basic with the 4 worst teams all tied on 4 points. Goyang went down 0-8 at home to Paju. Zebs lost 6-0 at Busan. Uijeongbu had no game. Next week, Goyang are off but they'll still find a way to lose! Zebras play Paquebot's resurgent Cabbage Army at the Nowon cares. I might go along to recreate my near sending off in the derby that time!

You may as well replace those three with university teams.

SIheung still top of the Basic, 4 points clear of Paju.

In Advanced, the Legal Eagles had their first win of the season....but are still bottom....it can't be a coincidence that their demise is at the same time as all the anti-graft government legislation takes hold....those bastards are having to do real work for their money now....not swanning around the golf course with the old guard....

Uijeongbu and the Zebs both scabbed draws at the weekend, leaving the mighty Pies rooted to the bottom now......where we belong.....

Uijeongbu 3 Pyeongchang 3
Paju 1 Siheung 2
Chungju 1 Busan 0
Buyeo 1 Yeoju 2
Zebs 0 Yangju 0

Siheung still top, 6 points clear of Yeoju and Chungju.

Advanced:
Cheongju 1 Pyeongtaek 1
Icheon 1 Hwaseong 1
Gyeongju 2 Pocheon 3
Eagles 1 Gimpo 2
Chuncheon 3 Yangpyeong 2
Jeonju 2 Cheonju 1

Filthy Pocheon fighting back on Gyeongju but still six points behind in the table....

Seoul United 0 - :smt013 Yangju

Another case of Yangju playing down to their opponents. The team has now recorded a draw with Uijeongbu, a draw with Seoul United, and a narrow 2:1 win over Goyang. Hardly the stuff you'd expect from a team aiming to promote back to the K3 Advanced.

One of our central defenders was shown a red card midway through the first half after (1) a late challenge and (2) clothes-lining an onrushing Seoul player. Really pointless move since Seoul didn't record their first shot on goal until something like the 37th minute and none of their shots looked all that dangerous. A few nice runs and passing from Yangju but half the team looked uninterested in shooting and the other half couldn't get anything on target or past the keeper. Think you'd have to go back at least 6 matches before you found a Yangju goal that wasn't scored by one of our defenders.

On that note, I was introduced to a pair of Brazilians during the match that are apparently joining Yangju for the second half of the season. They're both forwards, so it looks like the team is making an effort to address the woeful finishing up top. Didn't catch their names so I have no idea where they were playing before coming to the K3 Basic though.

Someone from the club brought a K3 Guidebook for me, so at least I had that to take a bit of the sting off the team's performance.

Surprised that you didn't recognise the two Brazilians, I thought the fact that they were still wearing their Goyang training kit would have given it away.

Terrible game which Icheon stole. Meanwhile in Advanced, the Eagles went down 9-0 at home to Hwaseong! The game I was meant to be at ended in a historic Goyang win 1-0 at Siheung?!? Zebs drew 0-0 and Yangju’s game from this round is to be played on the 4th August to tie in with the annual Cabbage Patch Fair. It’s a good day out - if you like cabbage and/or kimchi. It hasn’t really recovered from the 2006 scandal where the winner of Miss Yangju 2006 has bribed the judges with some white radish and a quickie round the back in exchange for the crown....that wouldn’t have been that bad but they later found out she’d used her uncle’s address to register and she really lived in Namyangju, hated cabbage and wasn’t prepared to marry her brother under any circumstances. Still, you should go along. If only to see paquebot getting rotten cabbages thrown at him at the ‘hate the foreign outsider’ stand!
