Work procrastination means... K3 update!

Advance:

Gyeongju hope to squeak past dominant Pocheon to the league title, although Gyeongju's lead is now down to just three points.

Seoul Jungrang Chorus Mustang, who won the inaugural Basic last season and earned automatic promotion, are still struggling in Advance. They finally earned their first win of the season in mid-June, but have lost all four games since then, including a 9-0 home loss against Hwaseong.

Meanwhile, Pyeongtaek – the team that finished third in the Basic and snuck through the promotion playoffs – are faring better in Advance, currently in 8th place with five wins (compared to Jungrang's single victory).

Although the bottom spot looks locked up, there's a tight battle currently between four clubs to escape the second automatic relegation spot and the pro-rel playoff spot (third-bottom).

Basic:

Newcomers Chungju have now won six on the trot, and are right behind Siheung, who have only won one of their last three matches. (Siheung were expected to win the Basic promotion playoffs last year as they were a dozen points above third-place Pyeongtaek at the end of the season, but unexpectedly lost in the first playoff round at home against FC Uijeongbu – the team at the very bottom of Basic in 2018.)

In honour of the Zebras, it looks like a good little race for the wooden spoon between Seoul United and FC Uijeongbu. Relegation to Division 5 (launching 2019) will begin one of these years, which should make things interesting at the bottom in the future.

Both K3 League divisions continue play on August 11.

Zebra’s name is PeleKim?! Genius! I would include Goyang in the wooden spoon race having seen how bad they are on too many occasions this year....although a 2-1 win over the Zebs helped our cause.

Advance:

Highlights of Pocheon vs. Hwaseong:

Gyeongju (1st) vs. Gimpo (4th) this weekend looks tasty.

Basic:

Highlights of Siheung vs. Seoul United:

The top four all won last week. This week the top two face each other as Siheung play away to Chungju. They're level on points and even on goal difference, although Siheung has a match in hand.

It's hard to judge from just highlights, but who is the Seoul United goalkeeper? Watching K3 always used to make me feel like I ought to play more. I'm probably too old now, but still.

Basic:

Eujin's spurious shot at Seoul United motivated them to win only their second match of the season. Rotten luck for them, though, as basement club Uijeongbu also pick up their second win of the year. No relegation from Basic yet, but it's becoming an interesting little four-way race at the bottom.

At the top, Siheung won away to Chungju, earning a league double over them and still with a match in hand. Two clubs will earn automatic promotion, however, and third-place Paju are now just a single point behind second-place Chungju.

Next weekend's big match looks to be Paju (3rd, 30 pts) hosting Busan (4th, 27 pts).

Advance:

Perennial champions Pocheon lost 2-0 away to Icheon, allowing current leaders Gyeongju to extend their gap at the top.

A bit of a surprise as third-place Chuncheon could only manage a draw (3-3) at home against relegation-threatened Cheongju. At the top, the playoff qualification race is getting right, as 3rd through 6th are now only separated by two points. At the bottom, Cheongju's point means they're now level with Jeonju on points for second-bottom (which is an automatic-relegation spot). Pyeongtaek and Yangpyeong remain very close to the drop zone.

Next week's most interesting match should be Gimpo (5th, 26 pts) hosting Chuncheon (3rd, 28 pts).

Are Seoul Utd still "owned by fans" or whatever?

Their Wikipedia page says they reformed as a co-op in 2013 in an attempt to join the K League Challenge (now K League 2).

I'm not sure if they still collect money from fans, although their shirts still feature the "fans come first" catchphrase.

By the way, you can buy their tops online for W65,000.

Basic:

Second-place Chungju lost 3-0 (away to Yeoju) and have been leapfrogged by Paju for the second automatic-promotion spot on goal difference. Looks like Siheung may coast to the title, but the second auto-promotion spot and the playoff qualification race are still quite tight.

Goyang also beat Pyeongchang 4-3, allowing the former to leapfrog the latter up to fourth-bottom. Nose bleed territory!

Next week's big match looks to be Paju (2nd; 31 pts) versus Yangju (5th; 26 pts).

Advance:

Gimpo (5th) beat Chuncheon (3rd) to make the playoff qualification race more interesting. Three clubs leapfrog Chuncheon, who are now in sixth-place.

Icheon (3rd; 28 pts) versus Gyeongju (1st; 37 pts) appears to be the tasty match next weekend.

By the way, kudos to whoever is updating the Wikipedia pages - they're being updated faster in English than in Korean! :smt103 You can take the lads out of the ROKfootball.com forum, but you can't take the ROKfootball.com forum out of the lads.

The KFA has updated their website, so the URL for the K3 has changed. Much better for getting K3 scorelines and now offers match stats (scorers, subs, etc.), although I still haven't worked out where the website is keeping league tables.

Basic

No surprises this week. Second-place Paju beat fifth-place Yangju. Wins for Siheung, Chungju, Busan and Yeoju (thus Yangju was the only team in the top-half not to win). Perhaps a little worrying for Chungju that they could only narrowly (3-2) beat second-bottom Seoul United at home.

With their win, Yeoju leapfrog Yangju into the final playoff spot.

Next week sees Busan (4th; 31 pts) host leaders Siheung (1st; 40 pts) at the top, while second-bottom Seoul United (10th; 9 pts) host bottom-club Uijeongbu (11th; 8 pts).

Advanced

First-place Gyeongju were held to a draw away to third-place Icheon. Meanwhile, second-place Pocheon won away, narrowing Gyeongju's lead at the top to just four points.

Elsewhere in the playoff race, Chuncheon, who dropped from third to sixth last week, lost away to eighth-place Hwaseong. Fourth-place Gimpo could only earn a 1-1 draw away to relegation-fodder Cheongju Jikji. Fifth-place Cheongju City play on Sunday, away to Yangpyeong. (With the Asian Games men's football final on Saturday, why weren't all the fixtures moved to Sunday? Never change, Korea.)

Next week's tasty games include Cheongju City (currently 5th; 29 pts) vs. Gimpo (4th; 30 pts), as well as Chuncheon (6th; pts) vs. Icheon (3rd; 31 pts).

I'm up in Seoul next weekend and torn between Seoul United v Uijeongbu and Yangju v Goyang.

Crowd scenes will be ugly either way I'm sure.

No need to PM, as soon as I cross the border the alarms will go off, the pitchforks will come out and Paquebot will be released from his cage. :albino:

i've been out of the loop since August but it seems that Goyang do better when I don't go! What happened this week? I'm free this Saturday so planning on going up.
