FC Uijeongbu play their last match of the regular season on Sunday at 2pm.

Naturally, the city's brand new pro volleyball club are playing their season opener at the gymnasium next to the football stadium ... on Sunday ... at 2pm.

Caught the Uijeongbu - Seoul United game today and the home side definitely looked as good as the score suggests. Kind of surprised Uijeongbu didn't score more given how much pressure they put on the Zebra's goal combined with some poor play from the United keeper and defenders. One example is Seoul United getting a goal kick and their keeper deciding to pass the ball to a defender in the penalty area while there were still Uijeongbu attackers around. One pass later and Uijeongbu had regained possession at the edge of the box.

I counted 59 people at the five minute mark so I'm not sure where the club is getting their attendance figure from, but they had gift boxes available for everyone at halftime. (Several small boxes of Kerasys Black shampoo) I asked one of the club representatives why Uijeongbu were in burgundy kits instead of their usual black and he didn't seem to know. Seoul United were in sky blue, so it felt like two completely different sides playing.

Popped over to the gymnasium after the match finished and was able to get in free to watch the fifth set of the KB Stars volleyball game. Didn't do an official count, but it looked like several hundred people were there cheering on the two sides. Definitely a much better atmosphere there, with cheerleaders, roars from the crowd, chants from both teams (Samsung fans sneaking in a cheeky rejoinder after each "KB"), and some energetic music during downtime. (I think they were playing Blur at one point.) I suppose it's a bit easier to do that with volleyball due to an enclosed space and frequent breaks in play ...

Excellent, another volleyball stadium to tick off when I'm back in Korea this winter. I've always been impressed by the atmosphere at Korean volleyball games, it's as good as the atmosphere at baseball games and with the added advantage of having something worth watching as well.
Bring back King Cha.

I've never been in to volleyball and have zero interest in the men's game. But just watching KGC vs Hyundai in the women's league and I find out KGC have a former Miss Oregon in their team, Alaina Bergsma.

There's something about female volleyballers that just isn't the same in football. I'm not sure what it is. The Hyundai waeguk, Elizabeth Campbell, was holding her own as well.

If interest in Korean football is flagging then I think a swift changeover to ROKvolleyball.com is in order...

Play-off Round 2
Pyeongtaek 2:2 Uijeongbu
(1036 Attendance)

Similar to the K3 Advanced matches on Saturday there were a few cards given out during second half injury time. Pyeongtaek players received yellow at 85', 90+3, and 90+4 while Uijeongbu had players carded at 14', 60', and 90+4 (a second yellow for 명재강).

So does Pyeongtaek win and get promoted due to home advantage?

I think so, but could be mistaken.

The match is over and no one knows who is going up? Korean football at its best!
