K3 League: Club Histories

Postby paquebot » Wed Nov 30, 2016 2:28 am

Following a discussion with MartyrsForever at last season's Goyang-Yangju match, here's a list with some of the important staff at Seoul Martyrs during their existence. All data taken from the respective K3 official guidebook.

서울FC마르터스 | Seoul FC Martyrs

2009
구단주 ... 조경근
단장 ....... 박상언
감독 ...... 김길배 ("코치")
Standing .......... 17th .......... 6 pts

2010

감독 ...... 유봉기 ... 김길배 (코치)
Standing .......... 8th (Group A) .......... 8 pts

2011

단장 ....... 박상언
감독 ...... 류봉기 ... 김길배 (코치) ... 루이스 (기술지원팀장)
Standing .......... 5th (Group B) .......... 30 pts

2012

단장 ....... 박상언
감독 ...... 유봉기 ... 이광조 (기술위원장)
Standing .......... 18th (9th Group A) .......... 2 pts

2013

감독 ...... 김상화
Standing .......... 9th (Group A) .......... 3 pts

2015
I don't have a guidebook from 2015 so I can't help with any information from their infamous -275 GD season.

I'm assuming 류봉기 was a typo. The team performed much better under that spelling than the 유봉기 from the seasons before and after though, so I would have loved to see him get a fourth season as coach after legally changing his name to 류. Perhaps of note, 유봉기 was also coach of Yangju Citizen FC from 2008-2009 and won the K3 League title with the team in 2008.

Then again, maybe it was the foreign "technical support team leader" (?) Luis that propelled them to their best season ever.

Done a bit of digging on this Luis chap, apparently he's a former Brazilian professional player turned goalkeeping coach who came to Korea at the request of former Ulsan Mipo coach Jo Min-guk, initially to work with Mipo but he also spent time with the Korea University football team coaching staff too. Judging from this photo he has also masqueraded as a trenchcoat-wearing, cigar-smoking glass-eyed 1970s TV show homicide detective of Italian descent with the Los Angeles Police Department...

Thanks for sharing that additional information! Makes me wonder how Jo Min-guk came to know of him, as I assume the Mipo coach wasn't just sending out mass emails to Brazilian footballers.

Looks like it's actually a card holder like what you'd see at a wedding reception. If you click on the photo you can see a larger version with the holding prong visible.

Why would you assume that? Based on the available evidence over the years, surely this is how most Korean clubs acquire their Brazilian signings...
This season I will be mostly supporting :
KLClassic - Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors / KLChallenge & National League - Anyone & Everyone / K3 League - Jeonju Citizen

Did we ever decide whether 조경근 (Rev. Cho) went from Martyrs to Goyang? He's clearly got some bad juju....2011 - what a year! It was the last time I was happy.

The kimchi bus should tour around each K3 ground - except for the Zebras!

If only Eunpyeong still had a team! I sense an opportunity for ROK FC to get going.

What happened to our K3 meet up? I'm available over Xmas!!
