2016 National League Cup

Postby Holyjoe » Tue Jun 07, 2016 8:10 pm

2015 thread here.

This used to be one of my favourite tournaments in Korea, used to be a great competition held way up in Yanggu where you could make a couple of days of it and see four games quite easily in what is a nice little town to spend some time in. For the second year in a row now they've decided that the matches each day should kick off at the same time, one at the Yanggu main stadium and the other at one of the practice pitches across the road, and it just doesn't seem to be all that interesting any more.

They're seven days into the tournament and these are the results so far:

Korail 1-0 Mokpo
Changwon 4-0 Gangneung
Busan TC 0-1 Yongin
Cheonan 2-3 Gimhae
Korail 1-0 Gyeongju
Mokpo 1-0 Changwon
Busan TC 0-3 Ulsan Mipo
Yongin 1-2 Cheonan
Gangneung 0-3 Mokpo
Gyeongju 2-1 Changwon
Gimhae 1-2 Yongin
Ulsan Mipo 3-0 Cheonan
Changwon 1-2 Korail
Gyeongju 1-0 Gangneung

And the two groups:

Group A
Daejeon Korail
Mokpo City
Changwon City
Gangneung City
Gyeongju KHNP

Group B
Busan TC
Yongin City
Cheonan City
Gimhae City
Ulsan Mipo Dockyard

I remember Gimhae doing well in the competition last season as well but struggling in the league.

We had a Korail v Mipo final for the second consecutive season but, unlike last year, Ulsan Mipo ran out victorious this time around as a 25th minute Oh Yoon-suk goal gave them a 1-0 win.

Semi-final results
Daejeon Korail 0-0 Gimhae (Daejeon won 6-5 on penalties)
Ulsan Mipo 1-1 Mokpo City (Mipo won 7-6 on penalties)

Final result
Ulsan Mipo Dockyard 1-0 Daejeon Korail
