The 'Martyrs are still alive' thread 2016

Postby Holyjoe » Mon Apr 25, 2016 6:09 am

It's been mentioned on here elsewhere but although Seoul Martyrs have sadly departed the K3 scene, the Martyrs movement/organisation/whatever-the-hell-they-are continue to live on in organised amateur football in the shape of the S-League (Sport for All Seoul Citizens League).

Martyrs seem to have a shitload of teams entered into this, the 'main' team being Gangbuk FC, playing at the hallowed Gangbuk stadium and competing in the Gangbuk region league up against such footballing powerhouses as FC Morning Star, Lennon FC, BEST and the Cross Old Boys. The league seemingly kicked off on Saturday but they've not posted the results up yet.

There's a Martyrs second string side also competing in the Nowon region league, that team is known as Nowon FC Martyrs and they're meant to be playing their home matches at the Nowon Madeul stadium. Perhaps that's why the Zebras have had to move on from that ground as the Martyrs have ousted them? They kicked off their league season on April 16th with a 3-0 home defeat to FC Friends.

The two other sides from the Martyrs family competing in the S-League are Dobong FC Living Soccer and Gwangjin FC Disciples. Looks like the Disciples lost their first match (surprise surprise) 3-0 to a team called MSPR but they're in for even more trouble against opponents such as FC INSANE and FC Revolt.

More exciting updates to follow...

Just give us updates of team names. That is entertainment enough.
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

Quite frankly if they aren't losing 28-0 every week then they aren't embracing the spirit of the Martyrs.

When and if they are reinvented the manager needs to be told that anything better than 15-0 is unacceptable and a sacking offence.

Worse standard than K3? Check.
Can still go the Buk? Check.
All games end in painful defeat? Check.

I'm in! Gangbuk FC for life!

Did I see in those rules that each game is only 25 minutes each half? That is dangerous as the genuine Martyrs tended only to really get hammered in the last twenty minutes of each game (unlike those of us in the stands who took precautions early - the day beforehand in some cases). Not much fun in getting beat 3-0 every week; it looks as if you're trying.

That 25 minutes each way is U-11 stuff......you can't consume enough Cass in that time to make the trip to the Buk worth it......although you could stay for the next few games from the Veterans' League and the Boy Scout Cup......though the last time Gyeongmaman did that, his mate got set upon with a baseball bat...

That said, the S League could be the perfect platform for ROK FC to get our feet off the ground.

I don't know, do you think we'd be able to compete with the likes of Gumcheon-gu's FC SAUNA? I love the full name of the club and the person in the bath in the logo is absolutely inspired.

There MUST be a way for us to get a club going. Even if we are only the owners with guest appearances every now and then.

Only students with some sort of foreign language at Uni level will be allowed. We will be Babelfish United, or something.
We will speak 14 languages on the pitch to confuse the opposition and secure the win, or something.
To celebrate a win the fans will throw cans of sardines onto the pitch and the opposition get it stuck in their ears, or something.
