Our old friend Kim Hyun-hee, who wrote the "top 10 grounds in South Korea
" article back in 2010 (the original doesn't seem to be online anymore), has penned a fantastic feature piece about the history of Ulsan Mipo Dockyard FC
The article covers how Mipo launched many K-League player careers (including Kim Dae-eui of Suwon Bluewings), their run to the Korean FA Cup final in 2005, various Korean football records that they broke, and how Gangwon FC's launch was heavily flavoured by Mipo.
It also looks at why Mipo refused promotion in 2007, and how the club was nearly whisked away to another city on several occasions.
Apparently Mipo manager Kim Chang-gyeom will not be offered a job at Ansan, and less than 14 players are likely to be given a contract there.
Anywho, an interesting read. Even worth using Google Translate.
