Changwon as well have had two 0-0 draws in a row to start the season.....at least the defence is tight.

Gimhae are doing their bit to raise the profile of the league.. they've invited Uli Stielike along to their match against Gangneung this weekend and he'll be doing a meet and greet along with telly commentator and KFA technical committee bloke Lee Yong-soo. They've also got some K-Pop girl group lined up as well but I've no idea who they are..

Also giving away an SM3 car and a few other prizes including TVs,etc....girl group name is Cotton Eye...never heard of them. Anyway, a free ticket for a new car...expect a big crowd.

Round three fixtures (all 3pm Saturday)
*Gimhae vs. Gangneung -maybe the biggest crowd of any Nleague game this season....free car is being given away.
*Ulsan vs. Daejeon - Ulsan lost their home opener. Will not want to lose two in a row at home.
*Gyeongju vs. Busan - a win and a loss apiece so far.
*Yongin vs. Changwon - Yongin are the only team on zero points. They face a team that have scored and conceeded zero goals...hmmmm.
*Cheonan vs. Mokpo - very early top of the table clash. Both sitting on four points.

3rd Round results:
Gimhae 0 Gangneung 2 (7200) - I cannot think of a bigger crowd at any Nleague game with 7200 attending. In saying that I cant remember a game where they were giving away a brand new car (SM3). The home crowd however saw the home team go down 2-0 but seemed to have been dominant but poor with their finishing. Wonder how many will come back?

Ulsan 2 Daejeon 2 (200) -The champions home woes continue failing to win in 2 games at home so far against unfancied opponents. Ex-Changwon player Kwak Chul -ho popping up with a double for Daejeon with his second deep into 2nd half injury time.

Gyeongju 3 Busan 1 (420) - Gyeongju strolled this one with ex-Gwangju striker Park Jeong-min popping up with a double. Looks like a bit of a shooting fest with 21 shots being launched between both teams.

Yongin 0 Changwon 2 (200) - Yongin's sluggish start to the season continue with its third loss in a row being the only team yet to pick up a point. This was Changwon's first win of the season and are still yet to conceed a goal. Yongin need to get some results soon or this season will be over before it hardly even started.

Cheonan 1 Mokpo 0 (2300) - this top of the table clash in front of a healthy home crowd produced a positive result for the spectators sending Cheonan to the top of the table. Ex-kleague midfielder Yoo Ho-Joon stepping up with a 39th minute goal. Mokpo were not without their claims putting up 15 shots and still looking lively enough to trouble any team at this level this season.
National League (3) - 창원축구센터, 부산구덕, 울산장합

7,200 at Gimhae? Must have all been camera shy as they're hiding from this pre match photo..

It's all gone rather quiet in here!

Gangneung City still top, despite losing at home to bottom-half Cheonan City.

The mighty Mipo had the chance to go top, but could only earn a draw at home against Milton Keynes Nukes.

Yongin looking like definite K3 material.

Changwon City flying in the league at present. Great last minute winner away at Yongin. Transport in freefall. Loving it.

Round 24 results:
Busan Transport 0-4 Cheonan (highlights)
Gyeongju Nukes 2-2 Gimhae (highlights)
Mipo Dockyard 0-3 Changwon (highlights)
Yongin 1-2 Daejeon Korail (highlights)
Gangneung 0-0 Mokpo (highlights)

Mipo had a chance to go clear second, but now in need of some hull repairs after losing 0-3 at home to mid-table Changwon.

Second-bottom Mokpo did well do earn a point away to leaders Gangneung; that's now two 0-0 home draws for Gangneung, who retain a 9-point gap at the top. The K-League Challenge's Goyang and Chungju are bloody lucky there's no pro/rel linkup with the National League (especially as Goyang lost at home to Gangneung in the FA Cup).

Round 25 (Wednesday 19 October):
Yongin (10th) vs. Gangneung (1st)
Gyeongju Nukes (2nd) vs. Daejeon Korail (5th)
Mokpo (9th) vs. Mipo Dockyard (3rd)
Cheonan (6th) vs. Changwon (4th)
Gimhae (7th) vs. Busan Transport (8th)

The league re-commences this Wednesday after a 2.5-week break. I notice the first two fixtures are to be played at 3:00pm... on a business day. Well done, all.

From round 24: here's the complete match video of Busan Transport vs. Cheonan. Constantly rebuffering for me here in Canada and thus basically unwatchable. Do those are you in Korea have the same issue with the video?

-----

Round 25 results:
Yongin 1-3 Gangneung
Gyeongju Nukes 4-0 Daejeon Korail
Mokpo 0-1 Mipo Dockyard
Cheonan 1-1 Changwon
Gimhae 1-0 Busan Transport

No big surprises this round, but Cheonan do well to keep their playoff hopes alive by holding Changwon to a draw.

Round 26 (Sat, Oct 22):
Busan Transport (8th) vs. Daejeon Korail (5th)
Mokpo City (9th) vs. Yongin City (10th)
Ulsan Mipo Dockyard (3rd) vs. Cheonan City (7th)
Changwon City (4th) vs. Gimhae (6th)
Gangneung City (1st) vs. Gyeongju Nukes (2nd)

Important promotion and relegation matches this weekend  , with 9th hosting 10th and 1st playing 2nd.

But in all seriousness, four clubs are fighting for the last playoff spot (fourth-place), with only two points separating them.

Changwon: 35
Daejeon: 34
Cheonan: 33
Gimhae: 33

...so that Changwon vs. Gimhae match is rather important.

I'd be amiss not to mention that Gangneung have won the regular season. They've been a strong side most seasons since joining the National League in its inaugural 2003 season.

Previously they won the second stage 2004, advanced to the playoff final in 2009 (losing on away goals to Gimhae), and won the second stage (and overall league) in 2010. But they've never won the playoffs, and had their worst-ever league season in 2015 when they finished second-bottom. Quite the rebound for them.

Will be interesting if they can win their first (playoff) title.

Round 26 results:

Mokpo 1-0 Yongin
Busan Transport 2-1 Daejeon Korail
Ulsan Mipo Dockyard 1-2 Cheonan
Gangneung 1-0 Gyeongju Nukes
Changwon 0-0 Gimhae

In the four-way battle for the final playoff spot, Changwon were held to a draw by Gimhae, while Cheonan was able to win away to Mipo Dockyard :smt093 . That puts Cheonan up into the last playoff spot with one round left to play, pushing Changwon out on goal difference.

I was a bit surprised to see first-place Gangneung win against second-place Gyeongju, seeing as Gangneung have already won the league (regular season) and Gyeongju would probably like to finish second (above Mipo Dockyard) to enter the playoffs in the second round rather than the first round.

Round 27 fixtures: (Saturday, October 29. 15:00)

Yongin (10th) vs. Ulsan Mipo Dockyard (3rd)
Gimhae (6th) vs. Cheonan (4th)
Gyeongju Nukes (2nd) vs. Mokpo (9th)
Daejeon Korail (7th) vs. Changwon (5th)
Busan Transport (8th) vs. Gangneung (1st)

Second playoff spot (team enters at second round instead of first round):

Gyeongju and Mipo Dockyard are level on points (41), but Gyeongju has a much better goal difference (+12 versus +2). Both teams play against the league's bottom two:

Yongin (10th) vs. Ulsan Mipo Dockyard (3rd)
Gyeongju Nukes (2nd) vs. Mokpo (9th)

A win for Gyeongju pretty much guarantees second spot. Mipo will be hoping for some heroics from Mokpo on that terrible Gyeongju pitch. Mipo must feel disappointed to lose at home at home against mid-table Cheonan in the penultimate round.

Fourth playoff spot:

With the final matchday approaching, this race now involves three clubs, with Daejeon mathematically eliminated due to inferior goal difference:

Cheonan: 36 pts (+2 GD)
Changwon: 36 pts (+1 GD)
Gimhae: 34 pts (+4 GD)

And they just so happen to face each other on the last day:

Gimhae (6th) vs. Cheonan (4th)
Daejeon Korail (7th) vs. Changwon (5th)

Assuming goal difference is the decider between clubs level on points, Gimhae qualify for playoffs if:
* Gimhae beats Cheonan and Daejeon beats/draws with Changwon

Will Gimhae's superior goal difference and some last-day luck sneak them through?

Bit of a groundhopping opportunity for those who live in (or don't mind travelling to) the southeast, as Gimhae and Gyeongnam Nukes are playing their National League final-round fixtures at back-up stadia this weekend (Sat, Oct 29):

Gimhae vs. Cheonan - 진영종합운동장 (Jinyeong Sports Complex)

Gyeongju vs. Mokpo - 경주황성공원5구장 (Gyeongju Hwangseong Park Field #5)
