RIP Seoul Martyrs

Postby Holyjoe » Fri Dec 18, 2015 7:57 pm

Perhaps no surprise but the Martyrs have today confirmed they will be withdrawing from the K3 and will not compete in 2016.

The Martyrs name will live on in 2016 in the futsal FK-League, and they're making noises about getting a team involved somewhere in the league set-up in 2017, but for now it seems to be game over for the K3 club.

Hope E-Land or the Zebras move in to the 'Buk, it's too great a venue not to be used regularly.

Nope nope.
I heard that they had a meeting with Gangbuk's politicians about MOU for Martyrs. Maybe they can come back with much nicer team status. But still there is a possibility that we can't see them forever. :)

Always sad to see a club leave but it must be depressing to lose every week. Played against for the opposition in a Martyrs trial match earlier this season (struggled a bit as I was recovering from a broken toe). Nice ground there but very cold, the entire far side of the ground was covered in a pile of ice. The fact that their goalie got lobbed from the halfway line let me know that the Martyrs weren't going to be any better this season than last. Seoul Utd should move there if they have the chance as its much better than their home ground in my opinion (if a little bit harder to get to).

Yeah Buk is a bit of a pain to get to but loads of character.

Move the Mustang in there :)

The Buk is the finest stadium in the land.....except for that one down South somewhere with the big rock in the corner.

It's no surprise. If they don't come back, I'll have to find another team to watch!

If Seoul United relocates to the 'Buk would you become a Zebra?
In Yangju, if your cabbage doesn't understand you and you have valid reason for not eating it, then it is ok to go to other vegetables for your kimchi - though strictly nothing from south of Namyangju. -- Martyrs Forever

You know the answer to that!

I'd have to go with a new team.....

....I can't think of any existing K3 team that I have a soft spot for.....in fact, I hate the lot of 'em!

I'm not sure they've had a "qualified" goalie the entire short time I've known this team. Most of the time it looks like they managed to get someone from the hof the previous night, probably using some dodgy betting scheme or sommin.
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

Not sure if I've understood this correctly but there seems to be a notice on the Martyrs page saying that if any of their 2015 K3 squad members wish to play K3 football in 2016 then there's some sort of agreement in place where they'll be automatically registered to play with Goyang for the new season.

Seems a peculiar state of affairs if that's the case, but I suppose it's good they're able to offer players a direct route back into the K3 if they are indeed pulling the plug on the team this season. Not great news for Goyang though...

Goyang Supporters: I don't know that.

Maybe. Maybe it could be a lie of Martyrs..

I'd rather be a Magpie than a Zeb!

Spare a thought for my mate, Fat man in a Trabszonspor shirt, what's he going to do now? Subway it to Goyang to see which of their 4 grounds they're at this week? Not likely! Lotte Super aren't going to give him the time off....

There has to be enough interest in getting a new Martyrs going from the ashes.....rising up.....born again....like the Big Man himself.....it's made for us....the ROK boys.....

1) Find out what it takes to register a team
2) Do it
3) Get to the 'Buk and pick up the cream of the Martyrs, throw in a couple of foreigners and some students from somebody's English classes plus a couple of 'Dr' Son's graduates that Gyeongmaman knows and we're laughing all the way to a pre-season friendly in Paju.
4) Design a garish kit and get me a sheepskin coat and a cigar!
5) Laugh demonically.
