Six rounds to go and things are getting interesting in the playoff race. Top four qualify and then it's 4th v 3rd with the winner playing 2nd and then the final against the team that finishes top, all done over two legs. Busan are probably out of the race to finish top and are going to struggle to take either second or third as well. Having said that, Mipo play Gyeongju tomorrow night so if that finishes a draw and Busan win then they'll close the gap considerably. They've got a five point advantage over Gangneung for the fourth and final playoff spot but Busan's form has been sketchy at best with just three wins from their last twelve games. They host Changwon tomorrow which is a brilliant opportunity to pick up three points before traveling to league leaders Daejeon Korail at the weekend. They do have a relatively easy October though with games against Mokpo (H), Cheonan (H), Gimhae (A) and Gangneung (H). Gangneung too have a pretty favourable run of fixtures before that final day meeting with Busan, they take on Mokpo, Cheonan, Gimhae, Ulsan and Yongin before that game against Busan. We could be on for a final day playoff decider here which would be fun, though Mokpo are pretty well positioned to give Busan a run for their money too.

Changwon 3-1 Yongin
Daejeon 2-2 Gangneung
Gimhae 0-0 Mokpo
Cheonan 1-2 Ulsan Mipo

Well Mipo and Gyeongju did draw but Busan really fucked up by going down 3-1 at home to Changwon. They were 1-0 up as well inside four minutes before conspiring to throw things away late on. Gangneung winning has put a lot of pressure on now, and even Cheonan's win has fired them into the mix as well.

Thumping win for Yongin over playoff hopefuls Mokpo, that moves them off the bottom after Gimhae lost. Gangneung's 2-0 win over Cheonan has strengthened their hopes of overhauling Busan TC. The Lokomotiv derby is still in play but Busan are currently 1-0 up on Korail, don't think there's very long left in that one but that would be an important three points for them.

Results:
Gimhae 0-1 Ulsan Mipo
Changwon 2-0 Gyeongju
Yongin 3-0 Mokpo
Gangneung 2-0 Cheonan

Busan win the Lokomotiv derby 2-1 so that really makes the top of the table interesting.

One round of matches to go and it's between Busan and Gangneung for the final playoff spot. As luck would have it the two face off at the Gudeok on October 25th, Busan only needing to avoid defeat to claim the fourth and final spot. They could have wrapped up their spot and would have had a crack at 2nd if they'd beaten Gimhae on Friday night though. Still quite tight from 1-3 as well, a Daejeon defeat could see either Mipo or Gyeongju finish top.

Special mention goes to Changwon who have now won an impressive eight matches in a row. Too little too late though as they can't finish in the playoffs.

October 17/18 results
Changwon 2-1 Mokpo
Gimhae 1-0 Busan
Ulsan 0-1 Daejeon
Gyeongju 2-1 Cheonan
Gangneung 3-0 Yongin

Changwon did the same last season...last at the mid season break and then went on a massive charge in the second half up the table but just made the playoffs last season...bizarre

Changwon's run of victories came to an end on the final day, as did Busan TC's playoff hopes as they couldn't hang on for the point they needed at home to Gangneung and it's the visitors who finish fourth instead of Busan. That's particularly harsh on Busan as they spent the entire season in the playoff spots - lack of consistency was their downfall really, after winning seven of their opening nine games by May 3rd they only managed five more wins and never won two in a row. They took seven of the available nine points from table toppers Daejeon which is a remarkable achievement but then lost twice to bottom side Yongin.

Korail very nearly finished third on goal difference, it took a second half injury time equaliser to get the point at Mokpo they needed to move above both Mipo and Gyeongju.

October 25 results
Mokpo 2-2 Daejeon
Busan 0-1 Gangneung
Yongin 1-3 Ulsan
Cheonan 3-2 Changwon
Gyeongju 4-1 Gimhae

Not sure anyone noticed but Gyeongju and Ulsan played out a 1-1 draw yesterday.

I forgot it was on to be honest but also had other stuff to do so no chance of making it down there.

Finished 1-1 today so congratulations to Ulsan Mipo Dockyard, National League champions 3-1 on aggregate.

They appear to have been awarded the Korean FA Cup by mistake:

Mostly a story about ajummas playing football but noticed the bit at the end about Yongin City FC going to be rolling in cash next season.
