I know we've had the Ansan bus before but not sure if we have had the Ansan "Mugunghwa" bus before. Caught outside Seongnam Civil Stadium in Moran at the Reserves last week. Now kicking myself for not going round the front to see if they still had the flashing light that was such a key feature of police buses in seasons gone by. Would be grateful if someone at future Ansan games could confirm.

As an added bonus (if "this fucking site" really does allow uploads) there is one of the Seongnam bus from the same afternoon advertising its next games...including one that had already happened.

I went to the Stiffs' League match between Seongnam and FC Seoul on Tuesday. Nothing happened in the game but Moran Stadium is something of a magnet for team buses. A Seoul and a Seongnam bus were parked outside but my eye was taken by this one belonging to the KT Hockey Team. I have never heard of the KT Hockey Team but I like its nice simple design and use of corporate colours without overdoing the branding. It looks like regular hockey rather than the Ice variety and Moran did host the field hockey in the 1988 Olympics ("Where, oh where were the Germans? And frankly, who cares?"). Very pleased with the photo as it incorporates a bus, a floodlight and the outline of a love motel. I only regret not having had the presence of mind to add a can of Cass to the foreground.

Now that you mention it I'd forgotten that the 1988 Moran final was against the Germans. I vaguely remember watching it and for the only time in my life caring about hockey. I'd always thought that hockey was the Netherlands, the Subcontinent and Australia, but just looking it up now and the Germans have done quite well recently in the Olympics. There's a hockey club near where I take my dog for a walk, but I never hear anything about it in the German news nor have I ever seen them show a match on TV. Odd. A bit like the Koreans and handball?

Edit: And look at that, Korea in the Olympic final in 2000! It's like discovering a whole new world.

Korea has hockey! Where? When? How? I want!
There are two routes to success in football. One is being good. The other is being lucky. You need both to win a championship. But you need only one to win a match.

I can only imagine that finding out about it is orders of magnitude harder than finding out about the football.

For example, the "official website" linked on wikipedia http://korhockey.co.kr/ gives a server-not-found error.

Good luck! :smt006

I saw the men's team play a couple of times during the Asian Games, and the elementary school closest to my work sometimes has the kids out with field hockey sticks doing exercises of some sort. Have yet to find the middle ground between the two, though. Maybe a university league?
In Yangju, if your cabbage doesn't understand you and you have valid reason for not eating it, then it is ok to go to other vegetables for your kimchi - though strictly nothing from south of Namyangju. -- Martyrs Forever

After seeing that bus I did look up the KT Hockey team and they have a section on the KT Sports website which could be a place to start off searching from: http://kt-sports.co.kr/sports/site/hockey/intro/bi.do. Looks like it's a women's team. It seems there is a semi-pro league comprising some chaebols and some City Halls, similar to the Handball league.

Next to the Moran Stadium there is a very well maintained Hockey Ground complete with little stands. Which I guess is why the bus was there.

Honor for Country! Here, Together! WK-League side Boeun Sangmu do right by their bus. They had a snappily dressed (male) soldier operating a video camera too. The rather drab Seoul City Hall bus - which still has "Amazones" written on it even though they seem to have dropped that name - is in front.

I've noticed at the Rounders that the teams leave the stadium right after the game, no time for a shower or anything, but then baseball players don't exactly do much in the way of physical exertion (save for injecting steroids and picking up the phone to their bookie to inquire how they are to fix the next inning, obviously) and as they play each other every day are probably only going a few minutes to their hotel.

But this is football. It was over 30C in Hyochang last Thursday afternoon yet both sets of players were on their buses within five minutes of the final whistle. Do these women not sweat? I was wringing my t-shirt out after simply walking around the perimeter to find some shade.

It's so cold in Canada that the "ice" prefix is just implicit. In Canada "ice tea" is just "tea", "ice cubes" are just "cubes" and "Iceland" is anywhere your feet don't get wet. :albino:

[Scene: Pyeongyang, 2045, in the new KFA headquarters after Korean reunification]

"Remember when we won the World Cup and people lined the streets to wave their dusters at us?"

"Those people were forced to do that, honey."

"Ahh, bugger."
