Bus Porn

Postby paquebot » Thu Feb 18, 2010 2:02 am

As mentioned in the 2010 National League thread, I work across the street from Singok Elementary School (신곡초) in Uijeongbu. Singok are the two-time reigning National Youth Champions of Korea and I've seen a few different buses parked out front for matches, but didn't think to take photos of them until recently. Little did I know there are bus porn fans on the forums here! Anyway, without further ado, here are some photos:

A better image of the Suknamseo FC club badge. (Still, a pretty crappy image from my camera phone)

Image
FC Dobong bus, from Dobong Middle School (도봉중학교 축구 선수단). Taken on 9 February.

Will update with more photos as they come. Maybe we can start a ranking of which level of Korean football has the best buses? :-D :-D :-D

The name Shingok sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. Does it have anything to do with this; http://forum.rokfootball.com/viewtopic.php?p=21684#p21684?

I don't remember the details but it was some kind of youth tournament, possibly involving a Shingok team.

Have you ever been to the mythical Muju? If you've been to Muju and you're into buses then you'll be like a god round here.

Yes, the article you linked is about the same school (의정부 신곡초) and their success at the Dongwon Cup / Elementary School League. I don't normally write about football on my blog, but the team and competition got a mention here. If I read this article correctly, the total attendance of the match was 1,500 and 400 of that came from Shingok parents making the trek down to Muju. (1. Why did nobody invite me? :smt089 2. Hey, that's more than Seongnam gets at their K-League matches! :smt082 )

Shingok seem to use a Celtic-inspired kit (white and green hoops) for many of their games, but I've also seen them sporting red:

I'm definitely into buses. Haven't made it down to Muju yet. Maybe if I make an early start of it I can persuade someone to let me take the Shingok team bus down to Muju ...

Hold on, something's wrong. The game you're talking about was in Gwangyang in June. That's the one that got the 1500 spectators (more from Pohang than Singok I might add  - it looks from the photos like Pohang Jecheol have been adopted by the Steelers).

The picture and article I linked are from Muju in November. Muju is in Jeollabukdo. I can't tell whether it's Shingok in the photo, but it sounds like they lost (on the 7th). You'd think the kid with the glasses is pretty well known. Do they have different age teams? It seems they have different tournaments.

At any rate, clearly the Shingok team bus is put to plenty of use.

Fantastic stuff... nice to see Suknamseo with a catchphrase that puts a lot of K-League clubs to shame :)

This was in a Daum article today - 2006 World Cup bus porn... lovely.

You're 100% correct -- apparently I'm just so happy to be talking about bus porn and the local team that my reading comprehension dropped to zero. Also, it would be really nice to hear that Pohang Jecheol were adopted as a youth team by the Steelers. However, it shouldn't be a surprise to find that more parents from Pohang made the trip. Not only is the city closer, but Pohang and Gwangyang are sister cities.

Not sure if Singok has different age teams, though I do see different groups of players - one much taller than the other - practicing at different times. Not sure if the taller fellows are from the adjacent middle school (also named Singok) or not.

And to keep the pictures coming, here's a piece of van porn for you all. Hot off the press (taken about 50 minutes ago) ...

Two photos from my trip to Pocheon over the weekend:

Not a football-specific bus but it still counts, right?

Do we know if Goyang Kookmin still has the angry fan graffiti on their bus?

Surely Suwon are Korea's Real football club, after all they are the only one managed by a King.
