Re: Winter Olympics

I have barely seen any of these Olympics... wasn't really covered in Bangkok when I was on holiday I work with an Indonesian woman and she was saying the coverage of the Winter Olympics isn't too great in Indonesia either. What it is with skiing and tropical countries? Why can't they seem to get in...

Re: Winter Olympics

Well, yeah, I must have missed those. Knowing what we all know about Korean sporting preferences I was probably worried the attendances would be pitiful. Western journalists would be perplexed at how some events were packed out to hysterical levels while other events were completely empty except fo...

Re: How the Bundesliga puts the Premier League to shame

I might end up going to watch a Polish team in Hanover today (the biggest Polish club in Germany according to their website.) I don't even know what tier they play in but theirs is one of the few matches that isn't showing up as postponed on the online fixtures list because it's an incy-wincy bit co...

Re: SteveW's Asean Adventure

Sounds like a blast. We did in the past look into the possibility of going to a match in Pyeongyang when it looked like they might play New Zealand. I don't think it is impossible. There are foreigners who go to the national team matches, and you might even find a tour group who could help out. I ex...

Re: Winter Olympics

Has anyone who's in Korea been to any events yet? Is there anyone in Korea still reading this forum?

I haven't heard the usual moaning in the Western media about the crowd sizes, so presumably that means they've been OK.

Re: The "48"

By the way, do you know if it's really possible to reach Korea on the ground. I mean train from Europe to China and then boat? Do you think it's very expensive this kind of long trip? It's definitely possible, both through China and just staying in Russia. There's a ferry from Vladivostock to Dongh...

Re: Winter Olympics

German-born Aileen Frisch (아일린 프리슈) was in the Korean mixed luge team as they achieved a very respectable 9th place (Germany won gold, wall-to-wall coverage...) She became Korean in 2016. Apparently she's not a great fan of spicy food but her favourite K-pop band is Big Bang. https://gangnam.com/fil...

Re: 2018 AFC Champions League

How do the Hong Kong teams rank against the teams from Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia? I know that some of the Thai teams (Buriram?) have some money-bags owners behind them and some of the Indonesian sides get home gate many times what Korean teams draw. Are the Hong Kong sides smaller t...

Re: 2018 K League 1

Yes, your points is right, but let's not forget that Jeonbuk has a great squad depth as well. Can overcome the problems with injuries. It doesn't matter how much you spend, it can happen to anyone, even Man City, who have spent so much on their squad they could have built Jeonbuk a new stadium. htt...

Re: I'm turning into my mum

Have I understood correctly that there will be two levels of play-offs in the top tier, one to decide the overall Nation's League winner and one to decide the team that qualifies for the European Championships? If only one group winner fails to qualify in the usual qualifiers will they automatically...

Re: K-League in the IFFHS

It's baffling why they think any of this makes sense, but given Korea's relatively poor performance in last year's ACL (no teams in the quarter-finals and only one team (Jeju) out of the groups) it's perhaps not surprising that Korea has been pegged back a bit. Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal got to the fin...

Re: Winter Olympics

The countdown has begun in earnest now in Germany. Moon Jae-in is appearing on TV ads wishing everyone peace on Earth and the German state broadcaster has 10 do's and don'ts for visitors to the Winter Olympics ; don't wear colourful socks, watch out for the soju, every man for himself on the buses, ...
