Re: North Korea June 22nd

I was talking about this with a friend at lunch. He reckons that a North Korean flag on its own is probably illegal, but a North Korean flag together with a South Korean flag is probably OK. I might try to keep a low profile though, if I can get into the ground! Even with pre-purchased tickets the q...

Re: Euro 2008

At the moment it's apparently a venue of one of the biggest bazaars in the world, with something like 5000 trades (some useful trivia for you). I was going to comment about the market tents you can see in the photo. The same thing happens in Russia. In Korea it seems to be stadiums and home furnish...

Re: Euro 2008

However, to be fair, there is a shortage of labour in Poland at the moment and there is talk of getting workers from China to come and help with actually constructing some of the stadiums. There's plenty of labour in the UK if the Polish government is willing to pay up for it. A lot of them even sp...

Re: Euro 2008

Any suggestions from you guys why this tournament has been so much better? One of the things that has impressed me this time is the number of fans from former Eastern block countries. It looks like all the teams had decent support this time, with an excellent atmosphere at all the games. Even Roman...

Re: Euro 2008

Anyone surprised about Russia progressing? I wasn't surprised about Greece going out and I thought Sweden were a bit lucky to qualify for the tournament, given a little helping hand by the Danes. Having the oldest squad in the tournament is usually a bad sign. Russia looked a lot better against Swe...

Re: Euro 2008

Is this the "ten-year" stadium or something? The one that was rebuilt using the ruins of WWII Warsaw? Actually it only looks in slightly worse nick than the Communale in Torino did when I was there in 1995. And how about Charlton's current ground, The Valley? http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/co...

Re: North Korea June 22nd

They don't have matching team ties? Does anyone know if they're also sending an official fan club/cheering section? Will they mingle with the fans outside the ground before the game? The Jordanians/Arabs did and a good time was had by all. Are North Korean flags legal or illegal inside the ground fo...

Re: North Korea June 22nd

Let me be the first to predict it will end 0-0. Both teams will be more concerned with not losing than winning and neither team has what I would call a potent attack. The ROK might scrape a goal off someone's ankle or the ref, but I'll go with 0-0.

Re: Suwon Peace Queen Cup

It's raining today in Seoul. It's been raining all night, but I doubt that will help New Zealand beat Canada. Still with a win they could go through, depending on how the tie-breakers work.

Perhaps Korea have an outside chance as well if they beat Argentina, although the need Canada to lose.

Re: Euro 2008

Are you talking about Luca Toni? There's a lot of hype about him, but I thought he was overrated at the World Cup and I still think he's overrated. He always looks so disconsolate whenever he misses as well, which happens often enough.

Let's hope the Dutch don't regret not putting the Italians out.

Re: Euro 2008

This raises a topic that could just as well be filed under the Peace Queen Cup. One of my friends in Japan told me that Europeans have ten times more sweat glands than East Asians. I don't know if it is true but it would explain why deodorant is so hard to find in Japan or Korea. The locals don't ne...

Re: Euro 2008

No, I'm not sure they "threw" the game against Nigeria. I have my suspicions though. They were very flat against Nigeria and I remember at the time thinking "they're not trying to win". I can't remember details of player selection and substitutions, but I think England just neede...

Re: Euro 2008

Still, it worked out well for the West Germans in 1986, throwing the game against Denmark. They went to the final, whilst Denmark got thumped 5-1 by Spain in the second round. It perhaps didn't work so well for England in 2002. But at least they got to the quarter-finals. Sweden did not. It doesn't ...

Re: Which football player were you back in the day?

I used to be a big fan of Roberto Baggio when I was a kid. I remember trying to sign him to my Sensible Soccer team in the league I used to play in with my friends, but they wouldn't let me have him playing for Finland (my team was Finland, we all had various handicaps depending on ability). In the ...

Re: Olympic qualifying draw not the kindest

Is that Park Jisung on the front page of the Sports Seoul newspaper saying he can't play at the Olympics? Is this not unsurprising as nzfooty points out above?
