Re: Euro 2008

Yeah, I've heard of Rob Roy's, and been past often enough, but never been in. They had a soccer team as well that I might have played against a few times. There was a pretty decent atmosphere at the Grail for a few games in '06, pretty good at least for 6am. Italy vs Germany and England vs Trinidad ...

Re: Suwon Peace Queen Cup

Fair dues to nzsoccer, there probably were 25,000 people there. Actually, I was going to deny going to the game, forget I said that. I can't say anything about the game that won't get me into trouble one way or another. If the Kiwis ever did make a porno with the Koreans it would probably be extreme...

Re: Suwon Peace Queen Cup

huh, the Kiwis are expecting 25,000 at the opening game. If it's full of 11 year-old schoolgirls I'd advise taking earplugs. I don't think the Kiwis have ever lost to ROK, but in 2004 they lost 11-0 to North Korea.

Re: Euro 2008

I watched the Croatia-Germany game last night. I thought the Croats deserved their win, even if the assist for their second goal was a tad fortuitous, off a defender, then off the post, with a possible touch by Lehmann along the way. I'd said that the Germans were basically playing at home in Austri...

Re: Euro 2008

Interest in the Euros waning amongst English-speaking Korean footie fans? :smt105

nzfooty, (or anyone else) can you think of any previous tournaments where the first team to be mathematically eliminated was the host? I don't think it happened to Belgium in 2000.

Suwon Peace Queen Cup

Does anyone know anything about the Suwon Peace Queen's Cup? All games in group A are being played in Suwon World Cup Stadium from the looks of wikipedia. Does anyone know if the tickets will be free? Will I be highly conspicuous if I go, because I'll be the only person there? Perhaps more important...

Re: North Korea June 22nd

You'd have thought the North Korean pram was running low on toys by now. I wonder how they keep it up. On the one hand you've got the KCNA lauding the protestors for standing up against outside influence and on the other you've got the DPRKFA saying its too dangerous to play in Seoul because of the ...

Re: Euro 2008

I never thought I'd say this about a Hiddink coached team, but I feel the Russians were tactically outplayed by the Spanish. The Russian back four were playing some sort of zonal system (I wouldn't call it a zonal marking system) and there was too much space between them and the midfield. Time and a...

Re: Euro 2008

This was pretty funny if anyone missed it. Panucci playing van Nistelrooy onside whilst lying prostrate behind the goal.

Re: Euro 2008

Are you watching all the late games nzfooty? The must start around 6.45 am in New Zealand. So it's an early rise rather than a late night? Are they showing games at the Holy Grail or is the whole thing passing by rather unnoticed in Christchurch? It reminds me of watching all the games in the last W...

Re: Euro 2008

I watched the Austria game last night (which is part of the reason why I'm struggling to get any work done today). It was amusing to see that after only 3 minutes the Austrians had already begun their exit from the tournament. I don't think there can be any complaints about the penalty. The Austrian...

Re: Euro 2008

Yes, I thought the Czechs were a bit lucky too. The Swiss put them under a bit of pressure, especially after the goal, and had a decent shout for a penalty or two.

The Czechs looked at least a Nedved short of a decent team. Not the team they were four years ago.

Re: North Korea June 22nd

The North have had some crowd trouble in the past, particularly noteworthy being the big Axis of Evil derby against Iran a few years back, but they don't usually take that many away with them. Nevermind "you must have come in a taxi", what about "you must have come in a submarine"?
