Re: 2017 WK-League

In terms of actual people attendance, where does the WK-League rank in Korea?

Behind the K-League Classic, behind the K-League Challenge probably too. But are there any other football leagues getting bigger crowds?

Re: Europe - General 2016-17

A match between two of the biggest sides in Sweden, Stockholm's AIK and Gothenburg's IFK has been cancelled after a player was offered money to play badly or risk having his family targeted. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39959232 Unfortunately, being the cynic that I am, this isn't really a surp...

Re: 2017 AFC Champions League

I wonder if Al-Ahli are officially the most successful club in world football in terms of titles. They've won the African Champions League 8 times as well, not to mention countless Egyptian league titles. Eat your heart out Celtic/Bayern/Juve/Barcelona.

Re: 2017 AFC Champions League

As someone who likes to read the tea leaves of the Champions League I can't help but comment that Korea only got one club through the group stage this year and that was Jeju in only their second appearance. With Jeonbuk kicked out maybe we shouldn't read too much into that fact and things might well...

Re: 2017 WK-League

What kind of cheerleaders did they have? Same types that they have at the baseball? Are there lots of girls playing football in school these days in Korea? That's a large part of the market for the top teams in Germany these days. I wouldn't have thought KBO-style cheerleaders were the way to attrac...

Re: How the Bundesliga puts the Premier League to shame

Update from Germany. A lot is written in the UK about Germany's 50+1 rule (in the OP for example). This is a rule that supposedly prevents individuals and corporations from taking over clubs and ruining them like they do in the UK. The majority of the voting rights in the professional clubs have to ...

I've said it before. Leagues and FAs need to approve player squad lists before they start playing football.

Re: K-League Challenge 2017

Seongnam and Daejeon joint bottom of the K2 in 2017.. rewind to 2007 and the two ended up qualifying for the post season K1 championship playoffs. Some fall from grace for both clubs. It would take something special for a Korean side to outdo English Tier 4 side Blackpool, who were in the Premiersh...

Weren't St Mirren supposed to be marching proudly towards Tier 3? I checked today and they're not even bottom. What's going on? I'm surprised no one has mentioned anything.

Re: English FA Cup

Made my first ever trip to Wembley yesterday for Arsenal v Man City. Bloody impressive stadium but almost as far from the action as you are at Anyang if you get a cheap seat. It's a big improvement over how old Wembley was, but yes, Korean football is not so bad all things considered. I went to a T...

Has any city besides Seoul ever had more teams than that playing in the competition in the same season? Nexen Tire have their HQ in Yangsan which is on the Busan subway, so in the 2017 competition we have: Nexen Tire, Bugyeong University, Busan FC, Busan Transport and Busan I'Park. Busan is a footb...

18 year-old Han Kwang-song scored for Cagliari (against Joe Hart) on Sunday in their 3-2 defeat to Torino to make himself the first ever North Korean to score in Italian Serie A. He has come through the ranks of ISM in Perugia and looks set to sign a professional contract in the summer. He was also ...

Re: Flying Korean Football Managers?

I actually really enjoyed reading my copy of the Busan I'cons book. It's exceptionally well researched and the reprints of photos from this forum came out surprisingly well. Holyjoe could've put a bit more effort into the preface, but you can't have everything.
