Re: 2017 K3 League Basic (D5) season

I'm fairly certain that nobody is reading the K3 stuff any longer. Shame. I am reading it. I can't decide whether the eerie silence round here is good because it reflects the atmosphere at the games and Korean football in general or bad because it used to be quite fun back in the day. Too many peop...

2017 Confederations Cup

Are we fully out of Kiwis now on this forum? It's a shame, because I thought NZ did quite well last night in the Confederations Cup match against Mexico. Even though they lost 2-1 and have been eliminated now, they did a lot better than the 2014 World Cup playoff, hit the bar with five minutes left ...

Re: When will Stielike get sacked?

Tricky. Just two matches left, and they're both crucial. But the home match against Iran is just 2.5 months away. If they were going to sack him and rebuild, they should have done it much earlier in the cycle. I reckon he stays for the remainder of qualifying. What would be the point of waiting unt...

You wait around 51 years and then two World Cup wins turn up in a week.

Do they shake hands with each other at the end of a death match or something else?

Re: After the K-League...

Martin Rennie doesn't seem to have found himself gainful employment since leaving the Ferrets, Brian Irvine has ... So Alex Ferguson found out what all his players were up to by spying on them at Pittodrie, and now the man who learnt a lot from Fergie got a job for the police? “Fergie was like a de...

This tournament is full of surprises.

It certainly bodes well for the future of the England team if they're even able to beat the likes of Costa Rica. Korea's much-hyped golden Barcelona generation on the other hand, maybe not so much.

Re: Seoul satellite city trying to land pro football club at new stadium

SteveW had an estimate of how much it costs to run a professional club. Assuming that the city will need to foot that bill entirely gives an estimate of how much this will cost the taxpayer, probably about the same as it costs in Seongnam. If E-Land or some other corporate could be persuaded to get ...

Re: 2017 WK-League

In terms of actual people attendance, where does the WK-League rank in Korea?

Behind the K-League Classic, behind the K-League Challenge probably too. But are there any other football leagues getting bigger crowds?

Re: Europe - General 2016-17

A match between two of the biggest sides in Sweden, Stockholm's AIK and Gothenburg's IFK has been cancelled after a player was offered money to play badly or risk having his family targeted. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/39959232 Unfortunately, being the cynic that I am, this isn't really a surp...

Re: 2017 AFC Champions League

I wonder if Al-Ahli are officially the most successful club in world football in terms of titles. They've won the African Champions League 8 times as well, not to mention countless Egyptian league titles. Eat your heart out Celtic/Bayern/Juve/Barcelona.

Re: 2017 AFC Champions League

As someone who likes to read the tea leaves of the Champions League I can't help but comment that Korea only got one club through the group stage this year and that was Jeju in only their second appearance. With Jeonbuk kicked out maybe we shouldn't read too much into that fact and things might well...

Re: 2017 WK-League

What kind of cheerleaders did they have? Same types that they have at the baseball? Are there lots of girls playing football in school these days in Korea? That's a large part of the market for the top teams in Germany these days. I wouldn't have thought KBO-style cheerleaders were the way to attrac...

Re: How the Bundesliga puts the Premier League to shame

Update from Germany. A lot is written in the UK about Germany's 50+1 rule (in the OP for example). This is a rule that supposedly prevents individuals and corporations from taking over clubs and ruining them like they do in the UK. The majority of the voting rights in the professional clubs have to ...
